This lightsaber was built by Dooku, future leader of the Confederacy of Independent Systems and Sith Lord, during his time as a Jedi Padawan.[2] At some point after becoming a Jedi Knight,[1] Dooku set aside his first weapon and built a new and superior lightsaber with a personalized design that he used throughout his years as both a Jedi Master and Sith.[2]

Dooku's first lightsaber was first mentioned in the 2015 reference book Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know.[5]
The sources are inconsistent regarding when Dooku set aside this lightsaber in favor of building a new one that he used for the rest of his life. While both Absolutely Everything You Need to Know[5] and its updated edition state that he used his second lightsaber as a Jedi Knight,[1] Star Wars: The Complete Visual Dictionary, New Edition states that he built it as a Jedi Master.[2]
