"A droid attack flare?"
―Cody observes a droid attack flare while speaking with a disguised commando droid[1]

A droid attack flare, also known as an alert flare, was a flare used by the forces of the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. A droid attack flare could be fired to alert allied forces of danger. Shortly after the attack on the Republic's Rishi Moon base by Separatist commando droids in 22 BBY, the surviving clones alerted the recently arrived Clone Captain Rex and Clone Commander Cody to the threat of battle droids using the droid attack flare.

Description[]

A droid attack flare,[1] or alert flare,[2] was a type of flare used by clone troopers of the Galactic Republic's Grand Army during the Clone Wars against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. When fired into the air, the flare could warn allied forces of danger, burning a red color.[1]

History[]

"I'll signal them with this flare."
―Hevy prepares to fire a droid attack flare[1]

Rex sensed the danger of enemy forces after being warned by an attack flare.

In 22 BBY,[3] shortly after the onset of the Clone Wars, the Rishi Station listening post on the Rishi Moon was attacked and taken over by Separatist commando droids. The survivors from the attack, the clone troopers Echo, Fives, and Hevy, escaped the base and fled in the surrounding landscape as Clone Commander Cody and Clone Captain Rex arrived at the outpost for an inspection.[1]

As the two clone officers unknowingly conversed with a commando droid who was disguised in clone armor, Hevy fired a droid attack flare to alert the pair of the Separatists' infiltration. Although Cody was initially surprised by the flare, Rex quickly realized what the flare meant and shot the droid they had been speaking to with[1] his[2] blaster pistol. The two clones were then ambushed, with several more commando droids attacking them. However, they managed to escape and, after being joined by the three surviving clones, soon retook the base.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

A droid attack flare first appeared in "Rookies,"[1] the fifth episode of the first season of the animated television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars that aired on October 24, 2008. It was identified as an alert flare in the corresponding episode guide on StarWars.com.[2]
