A Duch'da was a title used by Hapan nobles. It could be borne by male members of families like House AlGray, and it may have denoted the heir of a Ducha.

Behind the scenes

The title of Duch'da appears to be constructed on the same principle as Chume'da, the title for the heir of the Queen Mother. The root word appears to be Ducha, a title born by local rulers within Hapan space, such as the Duchas Galney, AlGray and Requud.

However, the one Duch'da to appear in canon, Aleson Gray of House AlGray, introduces himself as the Duch'da of "Lady AlGray", rather than of Ducha AlGray. The titles of Lady and Ducha may simply be synonymous here, but in the Galney family, the parallel titles are separate: Lady Galney was the younger sister of the reigning Ducha Galney.

Like Chume'da, the title of Duch'da may have been open to nobles of both sexes; however, the only Duch'da in canon is male.
