"Something wrong with this duralium-enforced steel. This panel is far too brittle."
―An engineer, to Jyn Erso[2]

Duralium was a blue-colored material that could be used to reinforce steel or to construct lightsabers.

Description[]

Duralium was a blue material which could be combined with a steel alloy to enforce it.[2] It could also be used in lightsaber hilts.[1]

History[]

During the High Republic Era, the Veil speeders, which were produced by Valkeri Enterprises for the Jedi Order, used duralium frames.[3]

This section of the article assumes 100% game completion of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Any alternate stories may be noted in the "Behind the scenes" section. The events in this section may or may not have been confirmed as canon.

In 14 BBY,[4] the Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis discovered some duralium within the Origin Lake on the planet Kashyyyk and kept it for making modifications to his former master's lightsaber, which he received from his Jedi Master Jaro Tapal shortly before his death during Order 66[1] in 19 BBY.[5]

Four months before the Liberation of Erso[2] in 0 BBY,[6] Jyn Erso, daughter of Imperial scientist Galen Erso, was imprisoned at the Wobani Labor Camp on the planet Wobani. Inside the labor camp, Jyn picked up a duralium-enforced steel alloy panel as she worked. However, she dropped it and the panel shattered. Noticing that the panel was too brittle, an RA-7 protocol droid notified the nearby engineer that 400 panels had been made from the same defective batch. In response, that section of the facility was shut down and every panel from that batch was pulled and remade.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

In the current Star Wars canon, duralium first appeared in the 2017 novel Rebel Rising, written by Beth Revis.[2] It was first pictured in the 2019 video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, developed by Respawn Entertainment. In the game, it is one of the twenty-four materials which players can collect in order to customize the appearance of Cal Kestis' lightsaber.[1] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, duralium was first mentioned in the 2005 reference book Star Wars: Complete Locations, in the Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith section written by Kerrie Dougherty.[7] It first appeared in the 2011 video game Star Wars: The Old Republic, developed by BioWare Austin.[8]
