Dust Durni

A dust durni.

"Durni are small creatures that live mainly on the planet Corellia. They shed their fur quite often which then accumulates into balls of hair. Many people think dust balls in their homes look like these balls of fur, hence the name Dust Durni."
Yawse Felsiy, to a spacer[1]

Dust durni was a slang term used to refer to a large pile of dust. Its name refers to the durni, whose soft fur coat may have reminded someone of the soft nature of dust.[1] In 1 ABY,[2] a spacer who was visiting the Tansarii Point Station searched the station for all the dust durnis on the station, cleaning them up as they went. For removing them all, they were rewarded with a feather duster by Yawse Felsiy. Another spacer later performed a similar task on Nova Orion Station.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

Dust durnis appeared in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[3] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[4] Dust durnis were added to the game upon the release of the "Chapter 8" on January 15, 2008.[5]

Dust durnis were an interactive object that players could collect.[3] The name is a reference to the term "dust bunnies" here on Earth, as durnis and rabbits are similar in appearance.

  1. 1.0 1.1 Star Wars Galaxies (post-NGE) — Conversation with "Yawse Felsiy" on Tansarii Point Station
  2. The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
