The Earl of Vis was a male individual associated with[1] the city of[2] Vis on the planet Naboo. A historical figure of the planet, they were the cousin of one of its ancient kings.[3] The earl built a large banquet rotunda in Theed, the capital of Naboo,[1] and owned a castle in the planet's Western Reaches. They were also the ancestor of Ars Veruna, a king of Naboo who resided in the earl's castle after abdicating[4] in 33 BBY.[5]
Behind the scenes[]
The Earl of Vis was first mentioned in the 2000 reference book Inside the Worlds of Star Wars: Episode I, written by Kristin Lund. Set during Queen Amidala's reign, the book established that the earl was cousin to "the old king," implying a family connection with King Veruna, the ruler who preceeded Amidala.[1] The Databank entry for Theed Royal Palace also repeated that statement.[6] However, the 2009 The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia[3] and James Luceno's 2012 novel Darth Plagueis established that the earl was cousin to an ancient king, with the latter specifying that the earl was an ancestor of Veruna.[4]
