- "And who might you be?"
- ―The Inquisitor, to Ahsoka Tano
The Eleventh Brother was an Inquisitor who served the Galactic Empire as a Jedi hunter during the Great Jedi Purge. At some point during or after 18 BBY, he visited a farming village after a villager tipped off the Empire to the presence of a Jedi there: former Padawan Ahsoka Tano. Tano was away from the village when the Inquisitor arrived, causing him to destroy the settlement and kill everyone there except for the villager who had informed and an old man. When Tano returned from delivering harvested crops with the villager's sister, the Inquisitor recognized her, but she saved the informant's life from the Inquisitor and killed him with his own double-bladed spinning lightsaber.
Biography[]
Imperial Inquisitor[]
A humanoid Force-sensitive, the Eleventh Brother served the Galactic Empire's Inquisitorius as an Inquisitor, hunting the Jedi.[2] Shortly after[1] Operation: Knightfall in 19 BBY,[7] he met with fellow Inquisitors, the First Brother, Barriss Offee, and the Fourth Sister inside Fortress Inquisitorius on the moon Nur. Together, the four knelt before Sith warlord Darth Vader, who was the new Master of the Inquisitors.[3]
Facing Ahsoka Tano[]
- "Can it be? You're supposed to be dead. Looks like I shall be rewarded… Ahsoka Tano!"
- ―The Eleventh Brother identifies his quarry
At some point during or after 18 BBY,[1] the Eleventh Brother was tipped off by a villager about Vader’s former apprentice the Togruta Ahsoka Tano's presence in a village, and arrived in the settlement to investigate. Upon not finding his target there, he slaughtered the entire village but the informant who alerted him of Tano's presence, and an old man. Holding the two hostage in the village center as it burned, The Inquisitor circled the two farmers and intimidated them with his doubled-bladed spinning lightsaber. When the informant claimed that he should be rewarded for his effort, the Inquisitor accused him of lying and claimed that it would not win him Imperial favor.[2]
When Tano returned to the village from a produce delivery alongside the informant's sister, the two found the village in flames and the Inquisitor tormenting the two farmers. Upon spotting Tano, the informant told the Eleventh Brotherthat he had been telling the truth. he Inquisitor acknowledged this, and attempted to "reward" the informant by killing him, but Tano used telekinesis to pull the man away from the Inquisitor, and cause his lightsaber to miss its target. Intrigued, the Eleventh Brother recognized Tano and gloated that he would be rewarded for her death. He attempted to kill Tano, but she dodged his blows before grabbing his lightsaber and deactivating it. She then wrenched the weapon out of his hands and decapitated him. The Inquisitor's head was flung away from his body, and deflated within his mask after landing on the ground.[2]
Personality and traits[]
- "You lie to me and expect Imperial favor?"
- ―The Eleventh Brother intimidates his victim
The Eleventh Brother was a humanoid, taller than 1.76 meters.[5] As an individual, the Inquisitor was cruel, impatient, and ambitious. Upon not immediately finding Ahsoka in the farming village after being tipped off by an informant, the Eleventh Brother massacred the entire populace and burnt down the village. He would go on to taunt the informant and accuse him of lying. In his confrontation with Ahsoka, the Inquisitor erroneously suspected an easy victory against the former Jedi, and believed that her death would lead to him being rewarded.[2]
Equipment[]
The Eleventh Brother wore a skull-like mask with red eyes, and black cloak adorned with two large Imperial crests, which included a hood that covered his head. He was equipped with a red double-bladed spinning lightsaber as a weapon.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
The Eleventh Brother appeared in the sixth episode of Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, "Resolve," and was portrayed by Clancy Brown.[2] In the Ahsoka novel by E. K. Johnston, Ahsoka Tano confronts and defeats an Inquisitor known as the Sixth Brother during the Raada Uprising.[8] When Johnston reacted to the trailer for Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, she assumed the Inquisitor was not an adaption of the Sixth Brother[9] because the character he is seen threatening is not Kaeden Larte.[10] When a fan replied by assuming the Inquisitor would end up being the Sixth Brother, she joked that was merely a lack of optimism.[11]
When addressing the possibility of contradictions, she stated she hopes fans do not declare her novel non-canon, stating that the book was approved by Dave Filoni years prior so it was natural for Tano's story to change.[12] When Tales of the Jedi released, Filoni confirmed that the episode was based on the same outline provided for the Ahsoka novel, and was intended to be the same story.[13] However the reference book Star Wars The Dark Side Pocket Expert, which includes information from the Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi series, lists Sixth Brother as only appearing in Ahsoka and Star Wars: Darth Vader (2017).[14] Additionally, the Sixth Brother's description in Inquisitor: Rise of the Red Blade matches the one given in Ahsoka, since he is described as having blue eyes, whereas the Inquisitor in Tales of the Jedi is depicted with red eyes.[15]
The 2024 reference book Star Wars Encyclopedia: The Comprehensive Guide to the Star Wars Galaxy confirmed that the Inquisitor in "Resolve" was a distinct individual, whom it named the First Brother,[16] though Lucasfilm Story Group member Leland Chee later noted that there had been a miscommunication and the wrong number had been included in the encyclopedia; the actual "First Brother" was meant to be the Inquisitor Marrok.[17] All the same, the encyclopedia formally separates the Sixth Brother and "Resolve" Inquisitor into their own entries.[16] The Inquisitor was ultimately formally named a few weeks later with the release of Star Wars Insider 229, which identified him as the Eleventh Brother.[18]
