Emma Mieko Candon is an American author and editor of Japanese descent who was born in Hawaii.[1] They are the author of Ronin: A Visions Novel, a tie-in to the Star Wars: Visions short film "The Duel"[3] that was published by Del Rey on October 12, 2021.[4] Ronin: A Visions Novel is their first work in Star Wars[3] as well as their first published book.[5]

Candon has described themselves as a chronically ill, queer cyborg who incorporates these traits into their writing on Ronin. Other writing inspirations include Akira Kurosawa,[3] who was also an inspiration for Star Wars creator George Lucas,[6] as well as other Japanese period dramas, folklore, and war trauma.[3]
