"We lost the ship, and a lot of good people. And for what?"
―Carth Onasi[src]

The Endar Spire was a Hammerhead-class cruiser that served with the Galactic Republic Navy during the Jedi Civil War. It was assigned in 3,956 BBY to take Jedi Knight Bastila Shan, veteran commander Carth Onasi and the amnesiac former Sith Lord Revan around the galaxy.

Whilst traveling over the ecumenopolis of Taris, the Endar Spire came under attack by the Sith, under the command of their leader Darth Malak. Malak's forces boarded the ship and attacked the Republic soldiers on board. Aiming to capture Shan alive, Malak's forces kept the ship intact as they attempted to take Shan prisoner. Revan and Onasi, amongst the Republic soldiers on board, engaged the Sith and attempted to fight their way to the escape pods on board the ship. After Shan escaped in one of the capsules, Revan and Onasi fled shortly afterwards. Realizing that Shan was no longer aboard the ship, the Sith fleet opened fire on the Endar Spire. The Endar Spire, outnumbered, was destroyed by the blasts.

Specifications and layout

The Endar Spire was a Hammerhead-class cruiser[1] in the navy of the Galactic Republic. The ship's deckplan was an exact copy of another Hammerhead-class cruiser, the Harbinger.[3] The engines and bow were painted red, whilst the main body was predominantly white in color.[2]

The vessel held Republic soldiers enough to combat any enemies who boarded the ship. The vessel also held multiple Jedi Knights, who were present when Jedi Padawan Bastila Shan was in command of the vessel. Many of these soldiers, and at least one Jedi, were present when the Endar Spire was attacked. The attack was staged by the Sith Empire, under Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Malak. Other members of the crew at that time included the former Sith Lord and amnesiac Revan, alongside Republic Captain Carth Onasi and Ensign Trask Ulgo. The ship also contained at least one droid, which could be programmed for combat. The Endar Spire was equipped with a number of laser weapons, guns which could be used to fire on enemy starfighters or vessels.[2]

The hallways of the Endar Spire were colored white, with maroon strips running across them, whilst the floor was colored a gray color. The ship was lit by illuminated panels, and the hallways and rooms in the Endar Spire, as well as the doors, were mostly curved. A series of blast doors were within the ship, and these could be magnetically sealed to restrict entry. Upon attack by the Sith fleet, many of these doors were broken, so that they could not be opened.[2]

Command deck

The bridge, located in the bow of the ship, was home to the ship's navigation computer. Computer terminals lined the outside walls of the bridge, with a chair positioned before each one. A large viewport stretched around the outside of the room, giving views into the galaxy from three different angles.[2]

The escape pods were also located on the command deck, being able to be accessed from a door from the bridge. There was at least one bay of escape pods, which contained four pods.[2]

History

Republic mission

"Now that you've signed on for this mission you're part of the Republic fleet. And Bastila needs all the troops at her side during this attack!"
Trask Ulgo[src]

During the Jedi Civil War, the Endar Spire was assigned to transport the Jedi Padawan Bastila Shan, veteran Carth Onasi and the amnesiac former Sith Lord Revan. This was in an attempt to trigger the return of Revan's memories of the Star Forge, the superweapon used by the Sith Empire. Shan's battle meditation, a Force power, abilities had been vital to the war effort of the Republic. Darth Malak, believing that if he could take Shan alive he would be able to corrupt her and turn her to be his ally, planned an ambush for the Endar Spire. Neither Malak nor the Sith had any idea that Revan was on board. The Sith flagship, Leviathan, was placed above the planet Taris in order to pull the Endar Spire out of hyperspace and board it. The Endar Spire, transporting its crew, was oblivious to the planned ambush. When the Endar Spire was pulled out of hyperspace, the Sith boarded under the lead of Malak's apprentice, Darth Bandon.[2]

Attack on the Endar Spire

Template:Qlisten When the Sith boarded, the Republic soldiers on board engaged them, whilst Revan was woken up by Ulgo. Revan, whose memory had been wiped, believed himself to be a normal Republic soldier, and had been conscripted onto the Endar Spire prior to the mission as a result. Whilst the Jedi engaged the Dark Jedi Bandon had led aboard, Ulgo and Revan hastened to obey Onasi's call for all available soldiers to report to the bridge. The Sith, wanting to make sure they captured Shan alive, were avoiding using firepower heavy enough to destroy the Endar Spire. Shan, realizing the objective of the Sith attack was her, made her way to the escape pods in order to flee.[2]

Revan and Carth Onasi escape the Endar Spire.

When Revan and Ulgo reached the bridge, they found it devoid of Republic soldiers and overran by the Sith. Killing the Sith, they were faced by Darth Bandon. Ulgo, to make time for Revan to reach the escape pods Onasi had now summoned them too, engaged the Sith, sacrificing himself for Revan's benefit. Revan, reaching the pods, entered the last capsule alongside Onasi, and fled from the ship. By this time, Shan had already escaped. Realizing this, the Sith opened fire on the Endar Spire, destroying it shortly after Onasi and Revan had jettisoned their capsule. Bandon escaped shortly before the destruction, as did three Republic soldiers.[2]

Behind the scenes

The Endar Spire first appeared in the game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, by BioWare. Encountered in the first playable level, the beginning of the level on the Endar Spire contains an introduction to the gameplay and timeline featured in the game. Composed of two separate sets of maps, and multiple rooms, the areas include the command deck and escape pod bay.[2]

Unlike most environments encountered in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, there is very little the player can do to change the way he or she interacts with their surroundings. The gameplay choices featured on the Endar Spire span only methods of killing enemies and different choices of speech to characters in the game. Nothing the player does will affect the fate of the Endar Spire or its crew in any way.[2]
