For other uses, see Endor (disambiguation).

Endor, also called Tana by the Ewoks native to one of its moons,[4] was a gas giant located in the Endor system,[1] a binary[2] star system positioned in the Moddell sector of the galaxy's Outer Rim Territories.[1] Endor acted almost like a second sun to the moons with its clouds of hydrogen reflecting light.[7] Located in grid square H-16 on the Standard Galactic Grid, it was connected to Cerea and Bakura by a hyperspace route.[6] The planet was orbited by nine moons, the largest of which[3] was known as the Forest Moon of Endor.[1] The ocean moon of Kef Bir was also one of Endor's moons.[5]

Before the destruction of the New Republic, the Galactic Senate attempted to rename the planet Tana, in honor of the Ewoks.[4]

Behind the scenesEdit

Endor was originally created for the 1983 film Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi,[8] where it appeared as a distant orb, labeled "Planet Endor" by special effects storyboards, above its Forest Moon, not large enough to be definitively labeled a planet.[9]

In the earliest drafts of Return of the Jedi, the Forest Moon of Endor, then known as the "green moon," instead orbited the Imperial capital world of Had Abbadon,[10] which would later evolve into Coruscant.[11]
