"Through the Force, a Jedi can endure even the most debilitating pain."
―Dooku to Qui-Gon Jinn — (audio) Listen (file info)[1]

Endure[2] was a Force power used by several Jedi to endure physical pain. Jedi Master Crucitorn endured the pain of being immolated during the Battle of Nar Shaddaa between the Jedi Order and the Flame-Wielders through the Force.[1] Masters of the ability could resist otherwise-deadly injuries and pain. It was also possible to use Endure to make others resist pain.[2]

Sometime between 102 BBY and 68 BBY,[3] Jedi Master Lene Kostana taught the technique to fellow Jedi Dooku, who in turn taught it to his two Padawans: Rael Averross and,[1] in 68 BBY,[3] Qui-Gon Jinn. To show the technique to Jinn, Dooku placed a metal band that the Heltraxi used as a torture device on his own chest.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Endure was first mentioned in the 2018 sourcebook Knights of Fate, published by Fantasy Flight Games for the Star Wars: Force and Destiny roleplaying game.[2] It first appeared in a flashback in the 2019 audio drama Dooku: Jedi Lost, authored by Cavan Scott.[1] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, a similar Force power named Crucitorn was first mentioned in the 2002 reference book The New Essential Guide to Characters, by Daniel Wallace.[4]

  2. 2.0 2.1 2.2 Knights of Fate
  3. 3.0 3.1 Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know states that Dooku was eighty years old at the time of the First Battle of Geonosis. Star Wars: Galactic Atlas places the battle in 22 BBY, thereby placing Dooku's birth in 102 BBY. Skywalker: A Family at War places the events of Master & Apprentice eight years before the Invasion of Naboo, which Galactic Atlas dates to 32 BBY. Therefore, Master & Apprentice takes place in 40 BBY. Qui-Gon Jinn is established to be forty years old in Master & Apprentice, placing his birth around 80 BBY. Dooku: Jedi Lost, in which Dooku teaches him Endure, states that Jinn was twelve years old when he became apprenticed to Dooku, placing the event in 68 BBY. Hence, Dooku must have been taught Endure sometime between 102 BBY and 68 BBY.
