Escape pod transponder

The title of this article is conjectural.

Although this article is based on canonical information, the actual name of this subject is pure conjecture.

Escape pods were equipped with transponders that signalled their location so that rescuers could locate the pods. Some models of escape pod had a handheld transponder, so that occupants of the pod could take it with them if they had to leave the immediate vicinity of the pod. Transponders in Imperial escape pods were designed so the signal could only be picked up by Imperial searchers.^[1]
