The Eve of Meckgin Festival was a Geonosian celebration that occurred the day before Meckgin, a holiday that celebrated Geonosian virtues of industry. The holiday occurred during the planet's rainy season. Prior to the day of the festival, there were three days of gladiatorial games held in the Petranaki Arena, where thousands of Geonosian drones were killed. The festival itself also involved combat inside the arena. Geonosian aristocrats spent fortunes to sit in the arena and be splattered by the gore from the gladiatorial affairs, while a hundred thousand other attendees filled the rest of the stadium.[1]

During the Clone Wars between the Confederacy of Independent Systems and the Galactic Republic, Archduke Poggle the Lesser returned to Geonosis following his release from Republic custody, on the account that the Geonosians assist with a Republic project. Poggle returned to his homeworld on the Eve of Meckgin, arriving in time for the festivities. Poggle spoke in front of the Geonosian masses in the Petranaki Arena. Several Republic emissaries, namely Orson Callan Krennic, Sate Pestage, Janus Greejatus, Ars Dangor, and Sly Moore, were also on hand to witness the celebrations. In front of the massive amount of Geonosians, Poggle announced that they would be working alongside the Galactic Republic on assembling a moon-sized battle station.[1]
