When he was a Jedi Padawan, Lannik Jedi Master Even Piell constructed a small green bladed lightsaber, to match his small size. As a Jedi Guardian, Piell would frequently use the lightsaber in battle.
History[]
During the Yinchorri Uprising of 33 BBY,[5] Even Piell wielded a red-bladed lightsaber in defense of the Jedi Temple.[3]
In 32 BBY, Piell joined Mace Windu, Adi Gallia, Ki-Adi-Mundi and Yaddle to Malastare for peace negotiations. Here, Even would brandish his weapon when Hutar Zash attempted to assassinate the Jedi. Piell emerged victorious, and also defeated the Red Iaro members that Zash wished to get support from.
In 22 BBY, Piell was part of the Jedi strike team led by Mace Windu in an effort to save Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and Senator Padmé Amidala from Sith Lord Count Dooku on Geonosis. Along with his Padawan, Jax Pavan, Piell used his green lightsaber to battle countless battle droids dispatched by Dooku. The battle sparked the Clone Wars, and Piell would be on the front lines using his lightsaber to win many battles for the Galactic Republic.
Approximately four weeks after the Battle of Geonosis,[6] Piell used a blue-bladed lightsaber during Skywalker's knighting ceremony.[4]
In 21 BBY, Piell was on a mission in the Outer Rim with his captain, Wilhuff Tarkin to recover secret hyperspace lane coordinates called the Nexus Route, which were of a great importance. His cruiser fell under enemy attack and Piell wielded his lightsaber in an effort to defeat the droids, but was captured and taken to the Citadel. He was soon freed by Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and Padawan Ahsoka Tano, and recovered his small shoto-like lightsaber. Piell fought valiantly with his weapon, until an anooba beast mortally wounded Piell. He managed to give the coordinates of the Route to Tano before he died. His lightsaber was returned to the Jedi Temple.
Behind the scenes[]
The color of Even Piell's lightsaber is inconsistent between issues of the Star Wars: Republic: Emissaries to Malastare storyline: its blade is pink in the second issue,[7] purple in the third,[8] and red in the fourth.[9]
