- "Fed-Dub?"
"Sorry. The Federation of the Double Worlds." - ―Belindi Kalenda and Jenica Sonsen
The Federation of the Double Worlds (also called Fed-Dub or just simply the Federation) was the government of Talus and Tralus, the Twin Worlds of the Corellian system.
Description[]
- "The Federation is the duly elected government of Talus and Tralus."
- ―Belindi Kalenda
The Federation of the Double Worlds was the elected government that ruled the Double Worlds of the Corellian system: the planets Talus and Tralus.[3] Its leader held the title of Prime Minister.[2] The Federation was officially a democratic republic but it had evolved over the years into a plutocracy.[1] The government had its office in the Capitol of Dearic,[2] the largest city and capital of the Double Worlds.[1] The Fed-Dub controlled a minor military force to keep the peace on the two planets.[6]
In addition, the Federation of the Double Worlds had authority over the mysterious Centerpoint Station. Located at the barycenter of Talus and Tralus, this gigantic and ancient space station had been settled like a habitation sphere and was ruled by the Fed-Dub Executive Secretariat.[1]
History[]
The Federation of the Double Worlds was formed around 500 BBY, when the despised inhabitants of the Double Worlds declared their independence from the central authority of Corellia that ruled the system. Corellia responded by launching a violent invasion of the rebellious planets. Although Corellian forces were supported by troops from Drall and Selonia, they failed to regain control of Talus and Tralus. The war was long and bloody but cemented the relationship between the Double Worlds. The Fed-Dub emerged victorious and became the undisputed ruler of the Double Worlds as an independent political entity.[1]
Over the next centuries, the Federation would maintain cordial, if often strained, relations with its intersystem neighbors. After the war, the Fed-Dub undertook massive building projects on Talus to improve the conditions of its citizens as well as to impress the entire system. However, the regime slowly evolved from a republic dedicated to its citizens to a corrupt plutocracy. The government endeavored to show a progressive, happy, and advanced society to both its in-system neighbors and the galaxy.[1]
During the Imperial Period, the Galactic Empire maintained a presence in Qaestar Town on Talus to keep watch over the Fed-Dub. However, the underfunded Imperial garrison was to busy struggling with local criminals that ran the city to be able to properly deal with the Federation.[1] During the Galactic Civil War, the Diktat of Corellia was forced to provide elements of the Corellian Defense Force to support Imperial armed forces against the Rebel Alliance. As the war intensified, Corellian military forces were repeatedly sent away to assist the Empire, leaving the Corellian sector poorly defended. Hence, piracy exploded in the sector.[3] On Talus, Fed-Dub's military force had to fight against many criminal and terrorist organizations, including the Binayre Pirates, the Tralus and Talus Liberation Party, the Lost Aqualishs and the Drall Patriots.[7] In response to the growing insecurity in the sector and to the intensification of the Galactic Civil War after the Battle of Yavin, the Corellian government enacted strict isolationist measures and restricted trade and traffic throughout the Corellian sector. The economy in the sector therefore declined, including on Talus and Tralus where economy relied on tourism. On the Double Worlds, the local economy and the society were destabilized by the collapse of the tourism industry and the massive arrival of impoverished migrants from other Corellian worlds. The Fed-Dub was unable to deal with the situation, leaving the government weak and unstable.[3] At this time, Hagrin Zeed served as Prime Minister of the Federation[2] and Haleen Snowline was the Minister of Protocol.[8]
Near the end of the Galactic Civil War, the New Republic gained control of the Corellian sector after the fall of the Diktat of Corellia. Micamberlecto, the appointed New Republic Governor-General of the Corellian sector, became the official ruler of the sector. Although the Governor-General theoretically oversaw all local governments of the sector, including the Fed-Dub, but in practice he barely controlled the planet Corellia.[3] Around the same time, the Triad of Sacorria discovered that Centerpoint Station was in fact a colossal hyperspace tractor beam that could be used as a superweapon. The Sacorrian Triad therefore infiltrated the station and secretly took control of the weapons system. During the Corellian Crisis in 18 ABY, the Triad used Centerpoint Station to destroy two stars in order to intimidate the New Republic. The first detonation decimated a large part of the residents of the station but nobody in the Corellian system, including the Fed-Dub, figure out what was really happening in Centerpoint Station. Finally, the New Republic navy defeated the Sacorrian Triad[5] and the Federation reclaimed Centerpoint Station.[9]
During the Yuuzhan Vong War, the New Republic seized Centerpoint Station in order to use it against the Yuuzhan Vong invaders. The Federation protested against this requisition[9] and decided to support the extremist Centerpoint Party that advocated for the independence of the Corellian system.[10]
More than a decade later, years after the end of the Yuuzhan Vong War, a new central government of the Corellian system, the Five Worlds, had been established.[11] While the Fed-Dub still ruled the Double Worlds,[4] Talus, Tralus and each of the other planets of the system voted individually to elect the Five World Prime Minister.[11] In 40 ABY, the Five Worlds and the Fed-Dub joined of the Confederation that fought the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances during the Second Galactic Civil War.[12][4]
