A mining complex in the Dune Sea on the planet Tatooine had been abandoned by the time of the Cold War between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire, allowing the insectoid creature known as the Sand demon to make its home there. The Sith Lord Praven stored the active Shock Drum superweapon in the complex, though a young Jedi Knight was able to deactivate the weapon before it destabilized Tatooine's core.
