A top-of-the-line starfighter manufactured by Ubrikkian Transports, the Phoebos was designed for one thing only; speed, speed, and more speed.[1] Sleek and aerodynamic, the Phoebos was exceptionally fast in atmosphere but truly excelled in open space, with the vessel being a common sight on racing circuits throughout the galaxy.[1] Boasting sizable defense systems for a sporting craft, the Phoebos possessed powerful shields and double light laser cannons.[1]

The Phoebos was popular with wealthy crime lords, small-time smugglers, and thieves, and was frequently seen as a status symbol for "new nobles" of the Galactic Empire.[1] As the Empire started restricting personal starfighter ownership, Ubrikkian classified the Phoebos as a recreational vehicle. This allowed Ubrikkian to bring a top-of-the-line starfighter to the market without running the risk of being shut down or converted to producing Imperial starfighters, as had happened to various other starship manufacturers.[1]
