Firefighter battle droids[2] were specialized B1-series battle droids equipped with enhanced heat shielding[6] that were programmed and equipped to fight fires.[2] Notable for their distinctive paint and heavy backpacks,[2] which featured the numbers 72066 running down either side,[4] they carried fire hoses that sprayed fire-repellent foam.[2] During the Clone Wars, several of them served aboard the Malevolence, a Subjugator-class heavy cruiser that served as the flagship of General Grievous, where they attempted to extinguish the fires caused by damage the ship had sustained in an earlier battle. They were also deployed in one of the hangars when Senator Padmé Amidala's captured yacht self-destructed, though their attempts to put out the flaming wreck proved less than stellar.[4] Decades later, R0-GR, the self-proclaimed last of the B1 battle droids, included the firefighter units in his book droidography. In the book, R0-GR claimed the firefighters were brave and that it was a result of them being from the B1-series.[6]
