It was announced on August 3, 2018. Although part of the second wave, it is the core set for the new stand-alone game Star Wars: X-Wing Second Edition, but it will allow for the components of its X-Wing Miniatures Game predecessor to be incorporated using special conversion kits. It was released on December 13, 2018.
