Fissrit were a type of carnivorous, many-legged arthropod that were native to ice worlds. Also known as fire worms, they could produce incredible heat through a natural chemical reaction in their underbellies, which allowed them to thrive in frozen conditions. The amount of heat they could produce was variable, with a fissrit at rest producing just enough to survive local conditions.[1]

When necessary, though, they could increase the temperature produced to melt snow or ice and to kill any prey creatures that investigated the pools of liquid water the melting produced. Fissrit typically measured just under a third of a meter in length, with the largest variants typically acting as solitary hunters. Other varieties dwelt in colonies, as all fissrit possessed a strong social instinct. Fissrit could be purchased for 1,500 credits during the Galactic Civil War but were hard to find for sale.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Fissrit were mentioned in Savage Spirits, a 2016 Star Wars Roleplaying supplement written by Tim Huckelberry and published by Fantasy Flight Games for the Star Wars: Age of Rebellion roleplaying game.[1]
