Fissrit, also known as fire worms, were a type of carnivorus arthropod with many legs. The could thrive in the frozen conditions of the ice worlds they inhabited due to a natural chemical reaction that occurred in their underbellies that produced incredible heat. When at rest, a fissrit produced only enough heat to survive local conditions, but the creatures were capable of increasing the temperature when needed.[1]
Using the increased temperature, fissrit could melt snow or ice into a pool of liquid water. They could also then use that heat to kill prey creatures that investigated the pool. All fissrit possessed a strong social instinct, with some varieties living in colonies, although the largest variants of fissrit tended to act as solitary hunters, with fissrit typically measuring just under a third of a meter in length. During the Galactic Civil War, fissrit were hard to find for sale, but could be purchased for 1,500 credits.[1]
