The flame battle droid was a flamethrower-equipped variant of the B1-series battle droid produced by the Trade Federation that was used during the Invasion of Naboo and the Clone Wars.
Characteristics[]
Instead of using blasters, flame battle droids used flame jets that could not be blocked by a Jedi's lightsaber. A large backpack was attached to the droids that contained the necessary flammable gases. They had tan plating,[2] and were distinguished from their B1-series battle droid cousins by the red coloration of the droid's shoulder plates.[1] They were programmed to terrorize innocent civilians and burn down homes, crops, and municipal buildings to destroy morale.[3] Another variant of the flame battle droid existed; the other variant featured blue markings and carried a different type of flamethrower.[4]
History[]
Flame battle droids were produced[1] and used by the Trade Federation during the Invasion of Naboo. A group was guarding the entrance to the Theed Royal Palace along with a T4 turret droid. They were destroyed by the Jedi[2] Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi.[5] Other flame droids guarded a group of Royal Naboo Security Forces pilots.[2] Flame battle droids continued to see use by the Trade Federation[6] and the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars.[1]
