The floonorp was a type of musical wind instrument.[1] It consisted of a cylindrical body with a tubular mouthpiece extending along and then above one side.[2] It made use of keys and elaborate tubes of varying materials to create a range of sounds.[1] In the year 32 BBY,[3] a Quarren[1] musician playing as part of a band in the stands of the[2] Mos Espa Grand Arena[1] on the planet Tatooine used a metal floonorp during the[2] Boonta Eve Classic[1] podrace.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
A floonorp first appeared as a prop in the 1999 prequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. The prop was not named in the film,[2] but received identification in the 2017 reference book Star Wars: The Visual Encyclopedia, which was written by Adam Bray, Tricia Barr and Cole Horton.[1]
The name of the instrument originated from the 1999 Star Wars Legends reference book Star Wars: Episode I: The Visual Dictionary, which was written by David West Reynolds.[4]
