Fong was a light-skinned, dark-eyed, Human male who flew as a pilot for the Alliance to Restore the Republic in their war against the Galactic Empire. During the Battle of Yavin, Fong served as the leader of Red Squadron and piloted a T-65 X-wing starfighter,[1] and during the Battle of Hoth in 3 ABY,[2] Fong piloted a T-47 airspeeder under the call sign "Speeder 3." As a Rebel pilot, Fong wore an orange flight suit and a gray, yellow-visored flight helmet.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
Fong was created as a tuckerization of Jim Fong, the design director at Galoob, the company which produced the Star Wars Micro Machines toy line from 1994 to 2002.[4] The character appears in the Micro Machines Action Fleet playsets "Yavin Rebel Base"[1] and "Ice Planet Hoth"[3] which, respectively, picture Fong on monitors within the Great Temple[1] and Echo Base.[3] While "Yavin Rebel Base" labels Fong as Red Leader during the Battle of Yavin,[1] the title was held by Garven Dreis;[5] as such, this article treats Fong as a non-canon subject.
