Fort Tusken was a settlement on Tatooine that was founded some eight decades prior to the proclamation of the Galactic Empire[2] in 19 BBY.[3] Situated on the edge of the Badlands of the Jundland Wastes, it almost immediately faced attacks from the local Sand People. The settlers experienced considerable loss of life and goods, until they ultimately decided to abandon Fort Tusken. From that point on, the settlers of Tatooine referred to the Sand People as "Tusken Raiders."[2]
