For a long time, the "Person" articles have been the Wild West of Wookieepedia. Little is defined by our policies or even any recent status article precedents regarding this kind of article. That started to change a few years ago, notably with the addition of a dedicated policy voted in during Mofferences/May 25, 2019. While I consider this a good foundation, I believe it could be improved upon.
Therefore, I want to propose two changes to this policy, to be held in two CT votes. The first CT is about whether we should keep a full career list of works (what we call "Filmography," "Discography," or "Published works" because of how the policy is worded at the moment) or focus only on Star Wars-related content. The second CT, which intends to extend the current "Filmography"/"Discography"/"Published works" sub-section, will be held until after the resolution of this first vote, as these results will impact it.
I think the Real-World Person Articles sub-policy should altogether drop the need for the inclusion of a full career list of non-Star Wars works because:
This is not part of our mission and aim as a Star Wars encyclopedia, and the Internet already provides numerous dedicated avenues for this.
It is ultimately a barrier toward the emergence of new "Person" status articles, as providing an article with a completely referenced list of works unrelated to Star Wars is a tedious, strenuous and unrewarding task. It will also constantly be out-of-date (at least for living persons). If you are not convinced, just look at Mark Hamill's full filmography on Wikipedia... and despair.
Remove any mentions of listing non-Star Wars works, such as the phrases I've italicized and struck through:
"This list will be organized in a table and be subdivided between Star Wars and other projects."
"The introduction section of real-world person articles may briefly summarize the highlights of a person's non-Star Wars career outside of the Filmography section."
Add "focused exclusively on Star Wars" after "provides a comprehensive list of the person's career works." It will become: "provides a comprehensive list of the person's career works that is focused exclusively on Star Wars."
I could've sworn we'd already done this. Fan26 (Talk) 02:56, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
I want to thanks everyone who helped me refine this proposition and the one to comes. --NanoLuukeCloning facility 21:46, 6 June 2021 (UTC)
Would "provides a comprehensive list of the person's career works that is focused exclusively on Star Wars" more accurately reflect the intentions here? If I'm reading this correctly, this policy amendment intends to make lists on real-world persons' articles focused exclusively on Star Wars, but the current wording makes it rather ambiguous. After discussing this with OOM, I've updated the proposal with his addendum. -- NanoLuukeCloning facility 09:49, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
