So maybe this is explained in the novel, I thought of this recently and I couldn't really find the answer to the question.
But...did Vader want to capture Luke's friends?
I mean after his duel with Luke, while he's on the Executor, Vader asked "Did the technicians disable the hyperdrive on the Falcon?" Which they did, he then orders the hanger bay to prepare and set their weapons for stun. It seems like Vader had this planned from the start, it certainly have had to take place before his duel with Luke because I don't see technicians working that fast and Lando did have his guys start working on the Falcon as soon as Han and co arrived.
So did the Stormtroopers purposely push Leia, Lando and co back to the Falcon in order for them to be trapped? They did a similar thing in ANH, where Tarkin let them go so as to track the Falcon to the Rebel base.
It seems like Vader wanted to capture them, not kill them. I'm confused by it really, so perhaps the ESB novelization sheds some light on this?
Also on an unrelated note, for some reason I can't see replies to my questions when I post questions here.Wolfscar45 (talk) 23:54, October 5, 2014 (UTC)
- So any answer here is speculation, but I assumed Vader was just hedging his bets. He wanted to have Leia and Chewie sent to the Executor, but in case they escaped, the Falcon's hyperdrive was disabled. After all, even if the main point of his plan was to trap Luke, Leia and Chewie were still valuable prisoners of war. That seems plausible...would make sense. I dunno...guess I just wanted to see if it was actually explained in the novel, since those things go into bigger detail with things. But that would make the most sense.Wolfscar45 (talk) 14:15, October 8, 2014 (UTC)
