I noticed that the droids Whistler and Q9-X2 made some edits of dubious value. Both droids' edits were mostly turning template names that were written all lower case into Proper case. (So {{mo}} became {{Mo}}.) However, I saw one where "(female human)", including the parentheses, became "(female Human)".

Why bother with these edits? What is the purpose? Will (Talk - contribs) 00:50, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

  • It's policy to capitalize Human now, and we need consistency among the articles. —Xwing328(Talk) 00:51, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
  • True. The real problem is that the bots are screwing up the family trees. They've got some kind of blind spot for 'em. Enochf 00:52, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
    • Sorry, that was mine. It was an error in the script which has since been fixed. No more problems as of about 10 minutes ago. —Jaymach Ral'Tir (talk) 00:54, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
      • What Jaymach said. We spotted that right away, but it took a bit to fully fix it. Most of the ones we went back and reverted by hand, but if you see any we missed, don't hesitate to fix it. Also, see Forum:Template Usage - Capitalization. —Xwing328(Talk) 00:57, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
        • Cool. Now can someone invent a bot that automatically replaces "millenium" with "millennium" (unless there's a [sic] after it) and just instantaneously fixes it as soon as it appears? Enochf 00:58, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
          • Yea that and Wookiee. Bot Q9-X2 just editted Q9-X2. :) -Fnlayson 01:06, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
            • Yeah, they're easy enough to program...and it'll give the bots something extra to do. —Jaymach Ral'Tir (talk) 01:10, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
              • It won't do it immediately, but we can change those and ignore pages with [sic] on it, yes. —Xwing328(Talk) 01:14, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
                • I'm not a tech specialist, so I don't know this. Do you give a bot a task, and then it finishes until you tell it again? Or can you just set it up to keep searching all the time for say the top 50 typos and just zap them whenever they occur, and it runs automatically all the time? Enochf 01:19, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
                  • I check on "Millenium" & "Wookie" pretty regularly, and all of the remaining instances are on userpages or are intentional (i.e. a Dark Horse summary that misspells "Wookiee"). -- Ozzel 01:23, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
                    • But wouldn't be better if we didn't have to? ^_^ Sometimes it's a problem, though, if the typo is part of an image file. "Wookie" has that problem, and so does "assualt." Enochf 01:28, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
                      • At my level of expertise, you have to tell a bot when to do something. We can start compiling a complete list of typos though. It could run through every page except for ones with [sic] and change it. Obviously, some controversial ones like Grey and Gray or anything spelled wrong in a picture wouldn't work. —Xwing328(Talk) 01:32, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Starting over. The Great Typo Hunt never dies. The typos always come back, and plenty of them are back now. I just found dozens of instances of "thier" instead of "their," and somebody apparently thinks "turrent" is how you spell "turret." (sigh) My Perfect Bot would also be able to report to me if any one particular page had multiple typos, so I could go back there and check to see what was missed. Enochf 01:43, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

So what was the purposed to capitalizing template names? I just don't see that it matters one iota. Will (Talk - contribs) 05:30, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

  • Same here; I'd think de-capping them would be the better course of action, if consistency were needed for some reason. jSarek 09:03, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
    • Uh, why are the droids removing "Unknown" from succession boxes? For the majority of the succession boxes they've removed "Unknown" from, it's really needed. For example, if there's something like "Unknown, eventually...", removing "Unknown" would be fine, but if it's the only word there, it shouldn't be removed. —Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) Imperial Emblem 12:23, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
      • The unknown thing was yet one more mistake. The intent was to remove unknown from the infoboxes, not succession boxes. If you guys want to decap them all instead, we can have a vote for that. It's just as easy to decap as it is to cap. Either way though, some sort of consistency is necessary. —Xwing328(Talk) 15:28, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Now the question is, can Whistler catch up with my edits because I always make my templates with lowercase letters. -- Riffsyphon1024 04:28, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
