Forums > Senate Hall archive > SH:Request for comments: Upload policy revamp

For a while now, I've been working on revamping our image policy to more accurately reflect the current standards and practices of the site. At this point I'm fairly satisfied with what I have, but before I put it to a CT / Mofference I'd like to get a little feedback.

So, if you'd all kindly peruse User:Darth_Culator/imagepolicyrevamp and tell me what I've missed or what you feel should be changed, I'd appreciate it. -- Darth Culator (Talk) 03:08, March 28, 2019 (UTC)

Looks great to me. One point though regarding the 12.5 megapixel limit under the quality section. Per my discussions with Wikia staff, that limit only applies to png images. A jpg image can be greater than 12.5 megapixels as long as it does not exceed the 10 megabyte limit. - JMAS Jolly Trooper Hey, it's me! 03:36, March 28, 2019 (UTC)

  • Interesting. The FANDOM help page on the subject doesn't differentiate, so I'll have to check on that. But that kind of Wikia fuckery is exactly why I put "This limit may be changed by FANDOM at any time, and this policy page may be updated accordingly" on the policy page, so if it IS wrong, we can fix it later. -- Darth Culator (Talk) 10:41, March 28, 2019 (UTC)
    • Yeah, I don't understand why the limit is only on png images either. But the proof of the point is here. This jpg image is 40.7 megapixels, yet under 10 megabytes, and it could be uploaded. Where as this png image in it's full size is 4100x3450. But at 14.2 mexapixels, Wikia would not let me upload it until I shrunk it down to less than 12.5. *shrug* - JMAS Jolly Trooper Hey, it's me! 13:32, March 28, 2019 (UTC)

A minor note: it appears Wikia has promptly abandoned the uppercase variation of their new name, instead preferring to use "Fandom" to refer to themselves. As an aside, we probably need to go through all other policy pages as well and have "Wikia" changed to "Fandom". 1358 (Talk) 23:39, March 29, 2019 (UTC)

  • I kinda want to keep it uppercase, and maybe even make it BOLD, just to highlight the silliness of the meaningless rebranding. -- Darth Culator (Talk) 00:31, March 30, 2019 (UTC)

Another thought: I feel like we should codify somewhere the technical limitations we enforce on uploaders, i.e. the criteria of our upload abuse filter: 50 edits and autoconfirmed status (account age > 4 days). 1358 (Talk) 21:57, May 2, 2019 (UTC)

  • And also a confirmed email. And good idea. Added that here. -- Darth Culator (Talk) 03:22, May 10, 2019 (UTC)
