I'm starting this discussion in regards to a consensus track page I'll be proposing soon. Apologies if my anglish is not clear enough, but that's why I'm putting this up for debate first as I may require your assistance.
Right now all Star Wars: The Old Republic content pages are being linked to the base game in the respective "Appearances" section unless they're part of a specific major Expansion on launch day. Adding to that we have the mess that has become the massive Star Wars: The Old Republic/Appearances page which includes all appearances from the base game, the major expansions and all updates. Even more messy, expansion pages are already listing their own appearances section. What I'm suggesting is we start separating it properly. It just doesn't make sense that something that happened in Expansion A is not part of the base game yet something that came after Expansion A is. For instance, update 5.10 has come recently and we're treating all its content as part of the base game instead of part of the latest expansion. People who have bought the main game have no access to this content unless they have the respective expansion so Wookieepedia should reflect that accordingly.
What I'm proposing is simple: everything is part of the base game (the page Star Wars: The Old Republic) until its first expansion including updates. After that, everything is part of the first expansion until the next major expansion. And so on, and so on. In fact, it looks like the developers divided the story chapters according to the game versions.
Here are all the relevant versions (according to developers) listing updates and major story expansions:
- BASE GAME (1.0)
- Rise of the Rakghouls (1.1)
- Legacy (1.2)
- Allies (1.3)
- Terror From Beyond (1.4)
- HK-51 Activated (1.5)
- Ancient Hypergate (1.6)
- Return of the Gree (1.7)
- Rise of the Hutt Cartel (2.0)
- Customization (2.1)
- Operation Nightmare (2.2)
- Titans of Industry (2.3)
- The Dread War (2.4)
- GSF Early Access (2.5)
- Galactic Starfighter (2.6)
- Invasion (2.7)
- Spoils of War (2.8)
- Galactic Strongholds (2.9)
- Forged Alliances (2.10)
- Shadow of Revan (3.0)
- Conflict on Rishi (3.1)
- Rise of the Emperor (3.2)
- Grand Togruta Celebration (3.3)
- Knights of the Fallen Empire (4.0)
- Anarchy in Paradise (4.1)
- Disavowed (4.2)
- Visions in the Dark (4.3)
- Profit and Plunder (4.4)
- Mandalore's Revenge (4.5)
- The GEMINI Deception (4.6)
- The Battle of Odessen (4.7)
- Shroud of Memory (4.7.1)
- Knights of the Eternal Throne (5.0)
- Defend the Throne (5.1)
- The War for Iokath (5.2)
- Sisters of Carnage (5.3)
- The Crisis on Umbara (5.4)
- United Forces Foundation (5.5)
- A Traitor Among the Chiss (5.6)
- Legacy of the Creators (5.7)
- Command Authority (5.8)
- Nathema Conspiracy (5.9)
- Galactic Legend (5.9.2)
- Fame and Fortune (5.9.3)
- Jedi Under Siege (5.10)
The Galactic Starfighter and Galactic Strongholds early expansions seem to be an exception as they are still part of Rise of the Hutt Cartel version module so I propose we consider the content in their following updates as part of RotHC as neither of the two adds any story content. To be fair some of this is already being treated as I said but it has already led to some conflicts between users so we should have some ground rules established.
Example: A character that first appeared during update 5.5 will be listed in Knights of the Eternal Throne appearances and will reflect so in said article.
To sum it up: I'll be proposing the organization of appearances according to the list I put up and everything extra in the base game's appearances section will be moved accordingly. If there's anything you wish to dispute or add, please feel free to do so in the section below. When there's nothing more to say, I will launch the CT for an actual policy on this. Discussion[]
- This all makes sense to me and to be honest is how I assumed it was already being done. Ayrehead02 (talk) 10:44, March 14, 2019 (UTC)
- If certain things appear in Galactic Starfighter and Galactic Strongholds that came after those 2 expansions were released, we should list them in those expansions (examples:GSF maps and decorations). --Rakhsh (talk) 13:05, March 14, 2019 (UTC)
- I agree but I'm mostly focusing on the story part here. I thought mentioning the Cartel Market objects would just be too confusing and honestly that can be solved as Fan26 just wrote below. If you feel I absolutely need to mention that in the CT, then I will. Winterz (talk) 14:42, March 14, 2019 (UTC)
- Guess this makes sense to me. Imperators II(Talk) 14:10, March 14, 2019 (UTC)
- I don't see any real problems with this. There might be some small exceptions (e.g. vendors) availible in the base game even if they come out with expansions, but that can be judged on a case-by-case basis if it actually happens to be an issue. There's no need to add a special clause for that. Fan26 (Talk) 14:33, March 14, 2019 (UTC)
- The CT is up. Winterz (talk) 16:28, March 16, 2019 (UTC)
