Creating a date note or template[]

The Star Wars Book dates the launch of the Starlight Beacon to 232 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, which corresponds to 232 BBY in the calendar system used by Star Wars: Galactic Atlas. As The High Republic: Light of the Jedi depicts the Beacon's launch, the novel's events must take place in that year.

Above is a form of the date note I have currently been using on Light of the Jedi-related articles. I think we could use this as a basis for a dating template for High Republic-related articles. Any suggestions on how to do that, or to improve this note, would be welcome. SilverSunbird (talk) 07:02, 8 January 2021 (UTC)

  • So far, we can't place many events specifically in 232 BBY. The dedication ceremony takes place at the very end of the novel, whereas the majority of Light of the Jedi is set over a period of several weeks, at the least, before that. Until we get, say, confirmation that the Legacy Run disaster occurred in that year as well, the most we can say is that the events of Light of the Jedi and stories that take place in its timeframe occurred "around 232 BBY." This is what I have so far as a date note:
The main events of The High Republic: Light of the Jedi occur several weeks before the dedication of the Starlight Beacon, which The Star Wars Book dates to 232 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. Since Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates the events of that film to 0 BBY, in can be determined that the main events of Light of the Jedi occur around the year 232 BBY. I've not yet finished LOTJ so unless it was brought forward, when we're first introduced to Lina Soh on Coruscant at the start of part 2, she mentions that the station will be open in 30 days Lewisr (talk) 01:29, 9 January 2021 (UTC)
Yup. They discuss delaying the dedication a bit, but the whole book takes place over a month or so. SilverSunbird (talk) 01:34, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

Related works[]

There are several works set during the High Republic Era not part of the project but which need to be sorted anyways, since they probably overlap with the project stuff (therefore no The Vow of Silver Dawn, please).

General Discussion[]

  • I have created a page for the bombing of the Steady Wing. I am holding off on placing the attack on Trymant IV until we know for certain whether or not it takes place simultaneously with the Great Disaster, something that will likely not be clear until the comic it appears in actually comes out. SilverSunbird (talk) 22:23, 20 December 2020 (UTC)
  • It's occurred to me that given the Emergences in Light of the Jedi, the business in the Trymant system in Adventures is likely an Emergence, explaining why the Nihil just happen to be there in time and suggesting it takes place later. The novel takes place over a month or so... SilverSunbird (talk) 06:11, 6 January 2021 (UTC)
  • Cavan Scott provided a little bit of info regarding the placing of the short stories on his Twitter here Lewisr (talk) 20:46, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
  • It would also be helpful to pin down exactly when the raid on Elphrona happens. Since Light of the Jedi tells things a bit out of chronological order so it can switch between viewpoints, I'm not currently sure when the raid happens in relation to the Battle of Kur. SilverSunbird (talk) 22:49, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
  • The High Republic Adventures 1 is also tricky to date. The plot begins with an Emergence, but it's not clear when in relation to the other stories. I get the feeling it happens before Yoda's appearance in The High Republic 1 since the summary of issue 3 mentions the group travelling to the Starlight Beacon and Yoda is present on the Beacon in the other comic. SilverSunbird (talk) 21:05, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
    • To narrow it down some more, the Republic satellite crew is caught by surprise when the Emergence occurs, suggesting that the issue takes place before Keven Tarr's navidroid array is brought online (which gives the Republic and Jedi the capability to predict Emergences). SilverSunbird (talk) 02:10, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
      • To add to this, Marchion Ro's helmet (better seen on the cover of The High Republic Adventures 3) matches the design described as in use for the majority of Light of the Jedi. Whereas the helmet he wears in his infobox picture is based on the later crown-like design he dons at the end of the novel.-ZapikCZ (talk) 23:27, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
        • Just to sum up: Marchion Ro wears his original Eye of the Nihil helmet, and the Emergence is a surprise to the satellite crew. In Light of the Jedi, Part 1 ends with the attack on the Garello convoy, which occurs about a day after the first Emergence. The first chapter of Part 2 mentions that 15 Emergences have occurred, and the navidroid array comes online after around the 34th Emergence. Therefore, the events of the early issues of The High Republic Adventures likely occur within this span, and possibly between Parts 1 and 2 of Light of the Jedi. SilverSunbird (talk) 20:10, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
          • Issue 2 update: Zagyar is one of the Nihil under Marchion Ro's command during the attack on Trymant IV. The pirate's appearance in Light of the Jedi is narrated to indicate that Ro does not know who he is prior to the banquet in chapter 21, suggesting that the events at Trymant occur afterwards. SilverSunbird (talk) 23:53, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
            • So..... issue 3 very obviously takes place directly after the first two, has Marchion's pre-Battle of Kur outfit, but also MUST take place after Light of the Jedi - Avar is in charge of Starlight and Marchion is allowing his goons on the Gaze Electric.-ZapikCZ (talk) 07:07, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
              • It says it's been a week since the previous issue. It's also not explicitly stated that Avar is in charge of Starlight. However, like you, I do detect some form of continuity error here. Also, LotJ moves so fast to a certain degree that this might take place after Kur, but before the dedication. Maybe. SilverSunbird (talk) 18:11, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
  • I realize a chapter-by-chapter timeline might require a little too much conjecture, but maybe at least splitting large works like Light of the Jedi into the parts noted in the books themselves could be a compromise? The Great Disaster, The Paths and The Storm would each have an entry in the timeline in this system. Same rules would apply to any other future stories that are split up in a similar fashion.-ZapikCZ (talk) 23:40, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
  • Has there been discussion regarding the Episode 5 of Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge? In this (flashback) chapter we follow the character of Ady Sun'Zee during THR era in Batuu with Master Yoda. I'm almost finishing it and will provide more details after. StupidRepublicEmblem-Traced-TORkit.svg Winterz (talk) 13:43, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
    • Well, there certainly will be now. Any input you've got would be great. SilverSunbird (talk) 20:30, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
      • I forgot to add but there wasn't anything more. All we know is that it's set hundreds of years before the Imperial Era, that the Batuu Jedi temple was abandoned, and that Yoda either served in or was related with the Jedi Council. I think we can assume that it's somewhere near the time of the Nihil but either after or before since there doesn't seem to be bigger galactic issues around it. StupidRepublicEmblem-Traced-TORkit.svg Winterz (talk) 21:41, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
        • Alright. Since she got an episode of "Characters" to herself, she might show up in something else, but until then we'll just leave it there. SilverSunbird (talk) 21:47, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
          • Now that you mention it, it's stated that after those events she went through the Jedi Trials to become a Knight. So if she appears as a Jedi Knight or a Padawan we will know when the events are set. StupidRepublicEmblem-Traced-TORkit.svg Winterz (talk) 21:54, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
  • The High Republic Show from yesterday provided us with this timeline Lewisr (talk) 01:33, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
    • Saw that. We can definitely keep it in mind, but my current experience with the released media questions the position of Into the Dark on that flowchart. SilverSunbird (talk) 01:42, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
      • Its probably just an easy timeline for folk not massively fussed about specific placing of events to follow Lewisr (talk) 01:51, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
        • Yeah. It might be ordered like that for suggested reading order. SilverSunbird (talk) 01:52, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
  • First Duty, well the 2nd part, ends with Avar being informed of a distress call from the Kazlin systm, it also has her/Nib/Burryaga having returned from a mission to the Malaga Cluster (presumably why she wasn't around in the first part), so if Cavan's tweet about it being after Marvel's THR 1 is right then its pretty firmly between issues 1 and 2 Lewisr (talk)

Specific Events[]

This section is intended to discuss specifically hard-to-pinpoint events within the greater works timeline. SilverSunbird (talk) 02:34, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

Raid on Elphrona[]

Here it is, the most difficult-to-date event of Light of the Jedi. As a recap, the raid, which takes place over a relatively short period of time, is recounted throughout parts 2 and 3 of the novel.

Trymant IV[]

The first arc of The High Republic Adventures deals with events at Trymant IV which are implied to occur during the events of Light of the Jedi.

  • The Republic satellite crew is caught completely off-guard by the Emergence, suggesting it occurs before the activation of Keven Tarr's navidroid array, which lets the Republic predict them. Meanwhile, the Nihil appearing just as the Emergence is occurring suggest it occurs after chapter 24 of Light of the Jedi, when Marchion Ro learns that Mari San Tekka is capable of predicting them and factors it into his future plans.
  • Ro, who commands the Nihil at Trymant, is not wearing the crown-like helmet he adopts after the Battle of Kur.
  • Zagyar is a member of Ro's crew, placing it after chapter 21 of Light of the Jedi, which is the first time Ro becomes aware of him.

The High Republic Adventures[]

Specifically dating the events of this comic series is proving trickier than imagined:

  • Issue 1 begins with an Emergence and ends with the start of a pirate attack. That the Republic satellite crew is caught by surprise indicates it begins before the activation of Keven Tarr's navidroid array as shown in Light of the Jedi, which lets the Republic and Jedi predict Emergences.
  • Issue 2 reveals that Zagyar is part of Marchion Ro's crew, setting it after LotJ chapter 21, when he first becomes aware of him during a banquet at the Great Hall of the Nihil.
  • Issue 3 muddies the waters: Ro has allowed various Nihil aboard the Gaze Electric, which seems to put it after the end of Light of the Jedi. Onboard the Starlight Beacon, it's implied that Avar Kriss might be the station's Marshal, something that happens shortly before the end of Light of the Jedi, but it is not explicitly stated whether she is or isn't.
  • TwitterLogo.svg Daniel José Older (@djolder) on Twitter: "Thanks for the question -- Ro switches helmets at will so helmet style doesn't indicate when it happens. These issues are post LOTJ pre TRS #StarWarsTheHighRepublic @missingwords" (screenshot)
    • This statement, however, does not make clear why the Emergence catches the Republic by surprise.
      • Judging by how the Spider Cruiser is conveniently there just as the Emergence happens, it's looking likely that Marchion cause the Emergence himself as a cover for getting Tromak. It'd catch the Republic by surprise because it wasn't actually fallout from the Great Disaster. Even if this exact explanation isn't true, we should defer to the author, as he knows a lot more than we do. Rather than trying to find "plot holes" where all there is, is an incomplete story.
        • Didn't think of that. We can leave it as "placement uncertain" for now.
  • It's likely that the first two issues of Adventures take place before the first issue of The High Republic because in the latter, Avar Kriss is surprised when Yoda arrives in the company of Veter.
    • Since the Star Hopper is shown to be in contact with Starlight in Adventures #1 (as is the Trymant orbital station btw which seems to imply that the station is operational, i.e. launched), wouldn't it make more sense for the first two issues of the comic to take place after the first issue of the Marvel series?
      • Well, the station is operational from the beginning of Light of the Jedi. The dedication ceremony is when it's formally opened. Avar is clearly surprised to see Yoda, making it possible that Adventures 1 and 2 may take place after Kur, but before the dedication ceremony, as the book indicates the dedication ceremony occurs several weeks after the battle.
