What's the naming policy for aliases? For example, we have articles for Arica Pradeux and Mara Jade even though they are the same person. However, we don't have separate articles for Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker or Palpatine and Darth Sidious. Darth Karikawill destroy your planet! 15:22, July 14, 2010 (UTC)
- Generally, aliases should be merged and redirected to the actual character. In this case, I've tagged Arica and Mara for merging. —Master Jonathan (Jedi Council Chambers) 19:41, July 14, 2010 (UTC)
- There was actually a policy decision to keep separate articles for most aliases. Darth Vader was Skywalker's actual name during his time as a Sith, not an alias. NaruHina Talk 23:18, July 14, 2010 (UTC)
- I don't recall any such decision. Can you point me to the discussion? —Master Jonathan (Jedi Council Chambers) 23:23, July 14, 2010 (UTC)
- While looking at Arica Pradeux article, recalled once seeing a picture of her somewhere. Well, it's in the Arica article. I was inclined to add the {{Mergeto}} tag to Arica, but now I'm curious as to what the final policy decision is. Interestingly, the very first version of Arica is a redirect to Mara Jade Skywalker. - Esjs(Talk) 23:50, July 14, 2010 (UTC)

- It seems to me that the naming policy's "most full and accurate version of the name" clause could mean that the article on the alias should be at Arica Pradeux. The only reason not to merge would be if that isn't the full version of Mara Jade's "Arica" alias: perhaps there's some evidence Jade used a different fake surname or no surname at all at Jabba's Palace? (I personally think all articles on aliases applied to a single person, place or object should be merged with and redirected to the main article on that subject if the "real" name is known, but that's not the current policy.) —Silly Dan (talk) 00:16, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
- I don't know if we can conclude that Arica and Arica Pradeux are the same, though. AFAIK, she didn't use a surname at all in Jabba's Palace, so they could be different personas. Maybe Arica is a very common name, like Sarah or something in the galaxy. Chack Jadson (Talk) 22:52, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
- For the record, I agree with Silly Dan. And I was about to suggest that if the Arica articles were not going to be merged into Mara Jade, they should at least be merged together (in Arica Pradeux). But Chack, your comment confuses me. Are you suggesting that if somebody uses the same name for different personas, then there should be a separate article for each persona? For example, Jarod uses the alias Loren Ipsum to hide his true identity. Once he pretended to be an accountant, and another time he pretended to be a doctor. Should there be "Loren_Ipsum_(accountant)" and "Loren_Ipsum_(doctor)"? - Esjs(Talk) 06:59, July 24, 2010 (UTC)
- No, I'm saying that Arica and Arica Pradeux are different names, and IMO, they shouldn't be together. Loren Ipsum is the same person, just with a different "cover" (if that makes sense). Arica and Arica Pradeux may be different people entirely. Like Silly Dan says, there's no evidence that she used a surname in Jabba's Palace. I just think it's assuming too much to put them together. Having said that, I could be convinced otherwise. Chack Jadson (Talk) 14:03, July 24, 2010 (UTC)
- So, I'm still trying to figure out where the line is drawn. Next scenario: Jarod goes by Loren Ipsum as an accountant, but goes by Dr. Loren Sumip as a doctor... that's two different people (and thus two different articles)? To me, not using a surname would be the same as a different (null) surname than Pradeux. So is using different names all it takes to be "different people"? Or is a different "personality" also required. I guess the ultimate question is: what does it take to be a "different" person and thus get a separate article? Sorry for being so picky about this... but I'm just not understanding your argument. - Esjs(Talk) 22:39, July 24, 2010 (UTC)
