Category:Military units and formations of the Galactic Republic by war (history - links - logs - delete - protect)

So this category, and its subcategories, feel like overcategorization and not a path we want to go down. Splitting them up by conflict just makes the information harder to find, IMO, and introduces category bloat when a unit lasts for a long time. It's certainly not something we'd do with individuals.

Keep

1. Hey, folks. I'm the culprit responsible for this category. The military history of the Galactic Republic spans 20,000+ years and most of the military units involved in the conflicts in those years are only known to exist for the duration of those conflicts. Personally, I find it tremendously beneficial to organize Republic military units by war to discern which units exist during a particular era. I think this is especially useful to site users interested in SWTOR-related topics like myself. In the absence of this more structured category system, we end up with large categories of dozens or hundreds of articles with no easy way to search for desired topics through a category search. 2. As the wiki grows more categories will be needed so that the categories themselves don't get bloated and are easier to navigate, "category bloat" on pages is easy to ignore as most are hidden nowadays and will only show when hovered over. Doesn't seem any different to me than categories of plants from a certain planet, this is just such an area that does not have as extensive coverage as plants yet. -Darth Soda (talk) 12:40, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
