Wookieepedia tableEdit

Wookieepedia plans to have a table set up at the event. Wikia will provide $1000 towards merchandise and the table. Official fan group application information can be seen at these links: [1] [2]

Part of the application for a free table is a no-more-than-500-word initial proposal.

"You, your Star Wars friends, and your local fan club can jump right into the heart of Celebration IV by becoming part of the entertainment and programming. In addition to applying for free exhibit space, fan groups and individuals can submit proposals for fan-sponsored events, entertainment, panels, or exhibits. Please send a brief initial proposal (limit 500 words) to, or mail it to Mary Franklin; Lucasfilm Ltd., PO Box 29901, San Francisco, CA 94129. Include your email address and contact information. Briefly summarize what you would do, time, budget, and materials needed, number of people involved, and how the audience could participate, if at all. Initial proposals will be considered for final proposals, and do not guarantee scheduling during Celebration IV."

Let's come up with the initial proposal and try to get our table for free. Then we can use the money from Wikia and the money that we raise towards other things listed on the original discussion page like merchandising. When we come up with a proposal we all like, I'll send it in. WhiteBoy 03:52, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

  • First we want to show that we are not just some random fan club and are a serious site with a goal. We should have computers up, maybe as many as their are people representing? This will show the rest of the world that doesn't know about us to know about us and furthermore read or contribute to us afterward. -- Riffsyphon1024 03:58, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
    • Agreed with Riffsyphon1024 — do we have any initial proposal in mind right now? —Mirlen 15:20, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
      • Okay. I just wrote something, but I did it Han Solo style (off the seat of my pants) because I don't have all the info. And I wrote it like a memo in Word, but I could change to a block letter, modified block, etc. The tabbed spaces don't work so well here. Feel free to modify it. SUBJECT: Celebration IV Table Proposal

Started roughly a year ago to provide a valuable source of information on the Star Wars universe, Wookieepedia ( has grown rapidly, with over 40,000 articles, approximately one thousand users (many of whom, such as Arf Maul and Darth Culator, can be found on the Jedi Council forums and communities) and with more information added every day, and also notable fan groups such as Club Jade and CUSWE listed as Official Friends of the site. As we strive to become the most comprehensive online database of Star Wars, Wookieepedia would now like to showcase our efforts at the upcoming Celebration IV through having a fan group table. This would be a standard or corner booth, and would be shared with the Completely Unofficial Star Wars Encyclopedia.

At a Wookieepedia table, Wookieepedians from around the world would have computers set up to show off the site and allow non-attendees to interact with event-goers via our IRC chat channel. Editors would be able to explain how the site works and try to garner interest from other fans, inviting other convention-goers to participate in the site (editable by anyone) and learn how to contribute. Current plans involve the placement of a projection screen linked to a computer to display the site in a larger form than merely on screens. Other users not present at the convention could also interact through Wookieepedia's IRC chat channel via linked computers. Additionally, various types of Wookieepedia merchandise would be available, particularly T-shirts. Current counts of users present to help range from about 10-20, with shifts of approximately 3-4 users at the table at a time to answer questions. To involve the event-goers, Wookieepedia is planning on having a “stump-the-Wookiee” contest, where other fans can compete in competitions to test the knowledge of Wookieepedia and its users. The table would be manned through most, if not all, of the convention. Recently, Completely Unofficial Star Wars Encyclopedia founder Bob Vitas expressed an interest in being part of the Wookieepedia table, allowing what can be considered the two largest unofficial online encyclopedias to stand side-by-side and display the wealth of information available.

However, to have the best presentation possible, Wookieepedia would greatly benefit from the aid of the event organizers in providing resources. First and foremost is a table for our exhibit, but resources including high-speed Internet access, computer equipment, a desktop projector, a projection screen, and any financial assistance would be greatly appreciated as well. As our users are from across the globe (from Arthur Papadam in Australia to Steven Greenwood in Tennessee) and must handle travel and accommodation costs, any assistance from Lucasfilm and the event coordinators would go a long way in helping us set up a table and be part of the much-anticipated Celebration IV.

We of Wookieepedia would like to thank Lucasfilm and Gen Con LLC for providing this venue for fans to gather in celebration of the most successful science fiction franchise ever, and we look forward to hearing from you and your representatives. May the Force be with you.

  • Hey, Ataru... based on the outcome of the general concensus, let me know if you want me to add anything, assuming we decide to join forces for a table. Bob Vitas 02:17, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
  • That was beautiful, Ataru. -- Riffsyphon1024 15:57, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
    • Thanks. If we come up with more activities, they can be added, and if we need more stuff, that can be added as well. I just wrote it because I was bored and because the deadline is in less than a month. Atarumaster88 20px (Audience Chamber) 19:27, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
  • In case this was looked over, here's a PDF regarding the actual table, including total costs and some rules we have to abide by. [3] -- Riffsyphon1024 18:53, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
  • That looks great. Kuralyov 19:53, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Anyone else have an opinion before we send this out? -- Riffsyphon1024 04:08, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
    • Even though I won't make it to Los Angeles, i have some thoughts for the table. We could offer tutorials/Instructions, maybe with a projection onto a big screen, of how to sign on as a Wookieepedian, how to create a user page, how to make an article, how to upload images, how to copy and use some common templates, how to site sources properly, and how to distinguish between canon, semicanon, infinities, ambiguous, and fanon, etc. We could also hand out pamphlets on the subject.JustinGann 06:32, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Ok guys. The proposal is due by the 1st of January. We need to send the proposal now. I have asked Ataru but there is no response to whether or not he did. Chad? -- Riffsyphon1024 05:47, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Riff, I've asked JSarek (who as far as I know is still the ranking member) to send it tomorrow. I was waiting to see if there were any other ideas, and I will update the proposal and incorporate JustinGann's proposals (at least some of them). It'd be nice if the people who are going would have a mini-Mofference to discuss what, how, etc. is going on at the table, IMO. Atarumaster88 20px (Audience Chamber) 20:15, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
    • I've also asked Bob Vitas to take a look and see if there's anything missing. With a bit of luck, this will be on its way soon. Atarumaster88 20px (Audience Chamber) 20:31, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
      • NOTE: That mess up there should read "FROM:Wookieepedia, in care of (sender)" Atarumaster88 20px (Audience Chamber) 20:56, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
      • Punch it! (Although you probably already have...) Bob Vitas 12:04, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
        • Now the question is: how long will it take before they announce a winner for the free table? -- Riffsyphon1024 05:00, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
          • It's been punched, though I told them that Riff would be in charge, so he probably needs to contact them. Atarumaster88 20px (Audience Chamber) 15:45, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
            • Ok, did you punch it before New Years, Ataru? And if they want to contact me via personal email, they can send a message to -- Riffsyphon1024 05:17, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
              • Yes Riff. I took precious time out of my New Year's Eve and sent it off. I'll send them a follow-up e-mail with your contact info, or you can do it later- the link is on this page. Atarumaster88 20px (Audience Chamber) 16:07, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
                • Actually, you should probably e-mail them, to establish a line of communication between you and the LucasFilm people. Atarumaster88 20px (Audience Chamber) 16:10, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
                  • I have responded to (hopefully Mary Franklin's address) with my email and phone number as requested here: [4]. Is there anything that we are forgetting? Do we need to send the logos? -- Riffsyphon1024 01:37, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
  • There are other deadlines also that the eventgoers should be aware of. Atarumaster88 20px (Audience Chamber) 06:25, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
    • Yes, I believe that March 31st is the last day to purchase a badge for the event, as they will be sending them in April. -- Riffsyphon1024 07:02, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
      • It appears that they may announce a winner at the end of the month. -- Riffsyphon1024 15:33, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
  • I have to say, I'm a little concerned. I mean no offense to anyone, but looking over the list, it seems that there are only about 5 or 6 serious Wookieepedians who are confirmed to be there and definitely intend to help out with the table. Am I wrong in that assumption? -- Ozzel 06:14, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
    • We could check with every person going to see exactly what they'll be available for, and bold those working on the table. I haven't heard a word from LFL or Gencon regarding the table so I'm thinking we didn't make it. -- Riffsyphon1024 06:28, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
      • Well you can scratch one from the list Ozzel. -- Riffsyphon1024 06:46, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Celebration Europe?Edit

  • Do we have enough users interested/able to go to Celebration Europe and set up a table there? Ironically, despite it being on another continent, it might be cheaper and easier for me to go then (still a longshot, though.) —Silly Dan (talk) 04:06, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
    • Are you actually closer to London than L.A.? -- Riffsyphon1024 07:04, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

      • I'm not closer to London than LA, but Air Canada thinks so sometimes, judging by the seat sales. 8) —Silly Dan (talk) 13:25, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
        • It's cheaper for you to go to London? It would cost me only 615 dollars for a roundtrip ticket to LA on, but signifigantly more on Air Canada...and I'm closer to London that you are. StarNeptuneTalk to me! 13:39, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
          • True, but I've seen more super-discounts on London fares than LA fares for some reason. —Silly Dan (talk) 13:49, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
      • I wasn't intending on going to Celebration Europe as I am already going to C4... But I could be pursuaded, lol. — beeurd talk 04:33, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
        • I'll be going if 1) We have a seat (which would be preferable) and 2) we don't have a seat. When will we find out if we got it? <stikre>And what is the cost?</strike> Jasca Ducato Sith Council Sith Campaign 21:06, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

As of the MofferenceEdit

  • As of being at the Mofference we were discussing what we would do at the table. A good idea that was brought up was having a tv or some screen. We would show "Wookieecasts" and that would help us show what this site does and stands for. It would also make it a bit more interactive with fans that are at this year's C4. I personally cannot get to LA. Sadly being here in Canada has some drawbacks. Maybe we can get some people from Wookieepedia to Let some officials see if we can get it here in Canada for C5?? any of comments and contstructive Critism is much appreciated - User:Jediknight2121

Ok, people, restructuringEdit

We need a status report on everything that is going on here.

  • What is the situation with LFL and the fan events area?
  • What is the status of Wikia willing to work out funds?
  • Do we still strive for a table or forget the whole thing?
  • Those that are going need to assemble in IRC for a C4 meeting.

  • I hate to bump this back up but we must know. Does anyone know anything? -- Riffsyphon1024 06:59, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
    • WE HAVE A TABLE!!!!!!! I received an e-mail from Mary Franklin yesterday saying what she can provide. But yes, we are SOOOOOOO in. There are some downsides- like bring your own computers, cables, and possibly access. Anyway, that's all I've got for now. Atarumaster88 20px (Audience Chamber) 03:48, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
      • YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!! *does the happy dance* Adamwankenobi 03:54, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
        • That is good. Took them a long enough time, but now we have to figure out how much it will cost us to operate it and who to man it when. -- Riffsyphon1024 04:14, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
          • Oh, crap, now we have to actually be responsible and know what we're doing. What were we thinking? jSarek 05:58, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
            • Yea this is one instance where the sith hits the fan. -- Riffsyphon1024 06:10, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
      • Any idea what the plans are? I need to be in Phoenix for a conference the week that C4 starts, and will miss Thursday for sure (bummer). I got my travel extended to include LA, so I'll be there are some point. (I already bought my passes!)--Bobvitas 23:20, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
        • I'm going to forward Riff's contact info to Ms. Franklin, so she'll have a person to contact. Have fun with the planning. Atarumaster88 20px (Audience Chamber) 01:50, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Well any new news also i should like to have would be nice. I know It cant make it to C4 but i would lek to know how it went. My friends would also like to wish they could have gone. We are all SW fans and are making our film still. So keep me posted talk:Jediknight2121|<span

  • Any updates? -- Riffsyphon1024 03:55, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
    • Status Update:
      1. T-shirt design approved. Yay! See Forum:T-shirt design to work out colors.
      2. Proposal submitted to Wikia for funding. Awaiting reply later this week.
    • To Do:
      1. Start sign up sheet for working the table.
        • At least one person is needed every hour the Fan Hall is open.
      2. Organize "Stump the Wookiee" trivia contest.
        • Did this ever get confirmed with Mary Franklin for the "Fan Stage?"
      3. Design and print banner for table.
      4. Design and print pamphlets for table.
      5. Finalize t-shirt design, print, and figure out the best means of distribution.
      6. Acquire projector and computers, along with all necessary cables and electrical/internet connections.
      7. Set up "Donations" on Wookieepedia to help sponsor this venture.

Obviously, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done. If anyone has any means to accomplish these goals, please let us know. If you know a company, group, or individual that would be willing to sponsor us or just donate a little, that would be awesome. We may be able to recognize any sponsors on our banner and pamphlets. If you have designs or ideas for banner/pamphlets, let me know, please! Thank you! —Xwing328(Talk) 02:31, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

  • I'm not going to be able to come, but I can at least do something. I can do graphics design, but I'd need to know the text to be used for the banners/amphlets, so I don't crowd them with pics or stuff or leave it too blah. this can count as my 'resumé' if you wish.-Solus (Bird of Prey) 18:19, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
    • I'd be happy to donate to make this work or buy a shirt if that is possible, but I don't think I'll work at the table. I'm not really such an active Wookieepedian... Charlii 18:46, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Table sign-upEdit

Since the list before is a little long, old, and not really a guarantee of willingness to work, we need to start a sign-up for people who can commit to working the table. We're going to try to keep the shifts as short as possible, but first we need an idea of just how many people we'll have. By signing below, you are committing to work our table for a least a few hours sometime during the event. Do not sign unless we can definitely count on you. -- Ozzel 03:43, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Note that if you work, you will most likely receive an exclusive Wookieepedia t-shirt. —Xwing328(Talk) 03:45, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

  • I think I have contacted everyone on the list below, as of May 14th. If you have not done so already, please head over to the Manning the CIV Table section of my talk page and sign up for a slot. --Bobvitas 16:20, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

  5. Large. LtNOWIS 03:08, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

  7. I'll be attending on Saturday and Sunday. I'm an XXLT or 3XL. Please let me know on my Talk Page when you'll need me. Maybe a few hours on one day. Graestan 23:12, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Official hours for the Fan Fair Exhibit HallEdit

From the Homing Beacon, the tentative hours for the Fan Fair Exhibit Hall during Celebration IV are:

  • Thursday, May 24 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM (FAN CLUB DAY)
  • Friday, May 25 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Saturday, May 26 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Sunday, May 27 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Monday, May 28 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

My suggestion would be to have folks sign up for 3-hour shifts, since it looks like the most we'd have to handle is nine hours a day. I can always be in a bit early to get things ready, if someone else can stay a little later and wraps things up. I told Xwing328 that I would create a sort of master schedule, so that we can be sure the table is always manned (we're required to have at least one person at the table at all times). So, if you don't mind, head over to my talk page and let me know when you're available to man the table. --Bobvitas 13:08, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

  • These hours have been confirmed. —Xwing328(Talk) 19:19, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
    • In keeping with the sign up list, how many "Comp Badges" will we have and does anyone know the size of booth we will have? If we have a shortage of badges we will need to make sure that the badges are left at the table. --Taybo20 19:48, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
      • Taybo, provided free are a standard 10 by 10 feet booth, with drape backdrop and side walls, with a 8' long table, 2 chairs, 1 wastebasket, and 1 standard electrical outlet to plug in electronics. We may need to order extra hookups though through Mary Franklin, as well as the Internet obviously. They also mention "reasonable drayage" service but if we carry everything of ours, we don't have to pay them to move it for us? Also she has to approve everything we display, so are we still using that Montage? She also said that two representatives of the group can trade their 4 day badges in for Associate Badges (though I don't know what happens if they catch you without your regular badge), but they allow people to come in early to set up. This will most likely be Bob and Xwing328's job, at least on the Fan Club day when some of us are not there. -- Riffsyphon1024 20:10, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
        • Internet is going to be a serious problem. It costs over $1000, and no special deals are possible. In fact is having to pay $6000 for their hookup. Extra electrical hookups won't be necessary. The one has enough power for a few computers. Also, "dryage" won't be a problem with our limited supplies: banner, shirts, brochures, (hopefully) computers, Bob's CDs, etc. Don't worry about the associate badges, I'm sure they understand, since they mentioned trading them out with other members. Back to the internet: my only idea is to install MediaWiki and download the latest database dump and image tarball, allowing people to browse the site offline. And it would be very nice if someone found somebody to loan a computer or two for this. —Xwing328(Talk) 03:29, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
          • Okay so badges will be of no concern then because most, if not all, will have the 5 day passes anyway. The internet has become a concern. I would have never dreamed that it would be so expensive for 5 days. I agree with Xwing; if we can't afford the internet we will have to download the image. The only way would be to find someone to help sponsor our table; though this will be extremely difficult in the next 2 and a 1/2 weeks. We still have shirts and pamphlets to buy. Xwing, did you ever find out about financial help from Wikia?--Taybo20 04:09, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
            • Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo... -- Riffsyphon1024 04:34, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
            • Yes Taybo20, we have sponsorship from wikia, but this is going towards shirts, brochures, and the banner. The internet by itself is more than Wikia's sponsorship. If we do find a sponsor (Go ask around for computers and/or money now!) we can add their name to our brochures and possible shirts. —Xwing328(Talk) 05:01, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
          • I will have basically my laptop with me, since the CUSWE can be run on a local IIS. I have a kiosk browser (the Arlington Kiosk Browser... it has a 30-day trial that seems to work pretty well) set up that will limit people to only the CUSWE website, so they can't muck with the rest of my machine. I could also run WinAmp in the background with all the Star Wars soundtracks on random playback. FWIW - I'm arriving in LA on Wednesday, and just found out that I have to go over to the Convention Center and pick up by Fan Club lanyard so I can get into the quick lines at the store. So, I can get at least one of the Associate badges then. (Or can I...Xwing, was I on the shortlist of folks who could get them?) --Bobvitas 16:16, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
            • I have a couple of positively Jurassic laptops . . . but, frankly, I'm not sure their hard drives are big enough to accommodate a Wookieedump, and their software all dates from the late 90s. jSarek 08:35, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
  • So according to the main C4 page, we're now going to be on the Behind the Scenes Stage instead of the fan stage? -- Riffsyphon1024 23:43, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
    • Yeah apparently. I talked to Ozzel and he confirmed it. I'm kinda surprised. Apparently it is a "bigger" stage than the fan stage. I'm kinda nervous...ha ha--Taybo20 12:28, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
      • Hey Bob, sorry for the delayed reply. To answer your question: no, I think Riffsyphon1024 and I are the only ones on the list right now. Those shouldn't be a problem picking up, and I have to go by the Fan Club thing to get my lanyard too. And finally, yes, BTS Stage. —Xwing328(Talk) 00:04, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
