Plot summary[]

On the run[]

The starship that Asajj Ventress and the Jedi boy fugitive lands in a docking bay in a bustling city. As the two file out of the starship with the other passengers, the boy expresses his wariness of traveling with the former Separatist commander and assassin since they were on opposite sides during the Clone Wars. Ventress replies that she is his best bet. When the boy asks how come she has not killed him yet, Ventress replies that he would be long dead if she wanted to kill him. When the boy asks why he should trust her, Ventress responds that the boy saved his life. When the boy counters that he also saved her life, she responds that he is testing her patience.

The boy replies that anger leads to hate. Ventress replies that she does not want to kill him but he is testing her. Ventress tells the boy that she is looking for Quinlan Vos but refuses to say why. She adds that an old bounty hunter acquaintance has information on Vos. The boy is wary of trusting a bounty hunter since he is fugitive. Ventress advises the boy not to act like a Jedi, prompting him to ask how he acts like a Jedi. She quips that he smells like a Jedi.

Familiar faces[]

Ventress pushes the boy down as a humanoid droid C-21 Highsinger is thrown out of a window by a large four-armed alien. Highsinger fights the four-armed alien who is armed with blades. A purple humanoid Theelin woman Latts Razzi comes to the aid of the droid and the two duel the four-armed alien. Razzi wraps herself around one of the alien's arms, forcing it to the ground. The alien swings its blade at Razzi but Ventress suspends him with the Force, allowing the droid to shoot the alien. When Ventress remarks that Razzi is slipping, Razzi replies that she wanted to see what Ventress would do. The boy watches with surprise.

Highsinger examines the fallen alien, who has succumbed to his injuries. The boy adds that the loss of life is always tragic. Razzi asks who the boy is before turning her attention to Ventress and her motives. Later, the group walk while Highsinger drags the fallen alien. When Razzi asks why they are interested in the path, Ventress claims that they are looking to kill some Jedi for profit. Razzi thinks that the Jedi are too difficult to capture while the Jedi boy hides his feelings.

When Razzi asks if Ventress could help with a difficult upcoming job, Ventress agrees in return for intelligence about the Hidden Path. Razzi agrees to help but says Ventress will have to fulfil her side of the bargain. When Razzi takes an interest in the boy, he identifies himself as Lyco. Razzi agrees to let Lyco join the team and tasks him with hauling the remains of the dead alien.

The heist[]

Aboard Razzi's starship, she enlists Ventress and Lyco's help in stealing an Imperial shield relay unit. She says that an insurgent group is wiling to pay a lot for it. Highsinger activates a hologram showing an Imperial shipyard on Cassaro. The shipyard is assembling components for a new starship. Razzi says that their plan is to intercept the shield relay unit as it make its way from the production facility to the assembly facility. Studying the map, Lyco says that sneaking in will not be easy since the Venator-class Star Destroyers have quad-range detectors. He advises flying low and jamming their sensors. Razzi enlists the boy's help in scrambling her ship's signature and leads the boy into the cockpit.

Razzi tells the boy that she knows he is a Jedi since only clone troopers and Jedi are aware of quad-range detectors. In private, she deduces that Lyco is looking for the Path in order to hide. She warns him not to trust Ventress since she is only concerned with her interests. When Strata asks if he can trust her, the bounty hunter replies she works for a price. If he helps her, she promises to get him to the Path and adds that nobody needs to get hurt. Lyco reflects on her offer.

Razzi's starship exits hyperspace and descends into a planet. The boy is visible anxious. On the planet, Razzi flies her ship past an orbiting Imperial Venator and lands in a forest. Meanwhile, a stormtrooper watches as several tracked platforms carry ISD-72x shield generator dome onto the assembly line. Two Imperials watch from a control tower. While sneaking into the factory, Ventress tells Lyco that he doesn't hide his Jedi character very well. Lyco starts to argue but Ventress reminds him to stick to the mission. She warns Lyco to kill the others if they cause trouble. Lyco is shocked but Ventress tells her that there are no friends in this line of trade.

Meanwhile, Highsinger skitters on all fours through the shipyard. He corresponds with Razzi via comlink. Razzi stays aboard her ship. Highsinger hitches a ride beneath a platform and cuts a cable, causing the crawler to stop. At the controller tower, Controller 323 receives news that Crawler 187 is impeding the path of Crawler 186 via the intercom. An Imperial officer orders Crawler 186 to be halted. An officer and two stormtroopers inspect the damaged Crawler 187 while Highsinger hides.

Ventress and Lyco board a platform carrying one of the generator domes. Ventress cuts a hole inside the dome. While Lyco climbs into the dome to reach the shield relay unit, Ventress keeps watch outside. An Imperial officer under Crawler 187 spots Highsinger. who shoots him. The droid then attacks a squad of stormtroopers escorting the Imperial officer, shooting one of them multiple times. As the stormtroopers discover Ventress, she tells Lyco to focus on his mission. Ventress deflects stormtrooper blaster fire with her lightsaber. The Imperials dispatch more stormtrooper reinforcements to the scene.

Escape and betrayal[]

Lyco retrieves the unit while Ventress battles the stormtrooper reinforcements. She slices the cables holding a generator dome, causing it to roll of the platform. A stormtrooper survives being crushed only to be shot by Highsinger. Ventress, Lyco and Highsinger ride the runaway generator dome. Highsinger exchanges fire with stormtroopers aboard two LAAT/i gunships, shooting several stormtroopers. Razzi arrives in her starship and shoots down one of the gunships.

While attempting to flee the dome, Lyco drops the device. He tries to retrieve it but Ventress tells him to escape. Ventress radios Razzi via comlink. She hangs her ship's gangplank above the dome. Highsinger, Ventress and Lyco manage to climb aboard. Razzi decides to turn on Ventress. Once Lyco has boarded, she orders Highsinger to shoot at the former Sith assassin. Lyco reacts with shock but is pushed down by Highsinger. Ventress rides the rotating deflector dome and exits through a hatch. She jumps on top of Razzi's ship's hull. Behind her, the deflector dome explodes as rockets fired by the LAAT gunships strike it.

Ventress to the rescue[]

Highsinger hauls Lyco aboard the cockpit. When Lyco protests that Razzi did not need to kill Ventress, Razzi reveals her plan to sell Lyco, saying that he is worth twice the price of a shield relay unit. Ventress however infiltrates the ship through a hatch and forces her way into the cockpit. She cuts Highsinger across the torso while Lyco restrains the droid with his lightsaber. Ventress forces Razzi to take them into hyperspace.

Once in hyperspace, Ventress forces Razzi to give the coordinates to the Path. Razzi plugs a datacard into a device, which she hands to Lyco. Ventress faces Razzi down. Razzi drops Ventress and Lyco at a spaceport. When Ventress asks Lyco if he will tell her what is on it, Lyco agrees since he trusts her.
