GX-8 was a sewing assistant droid that was employed by Arta Kleidun, owner of Black Spire Outfitters, to help keep up with demand at her store. It helped with mending clothing and other minor sewing tasks using its many arms, each one of which was specially designed for mending and sewing garments.
In 34 ABY, during the First Order occupation of the planet Batuu, GX-8 sat in power-down mode in its stall within Black Spire Outfitters, which was located in Black Spire Outpost on Batuu. The droid had orange, black, and white plating and a black sensor.
Behind the scenes
GX-8 first appeared as a prop within the themed land Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, which opened to guests at Disneyland Park and Disney's Hollywood Studios Park in 2019. Its design was inspired by a medical droid.
