- "Shortly the government was under new management and the Emperor's edicts rendered the Ministry of Ingress into a puppet of the Imperial Center military police. He also took sweeping steps to streamline what had become a hopelessly gridlocked economy, creating the Galactic Banking Network as a successor to the clearinghouse the Republic had used."
- ―Doctor Gabrel Treon, from "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Praji: A Cartel of Genes," published in the Byblos Journal of Historical Science
The Galactic Banking Network,[1] also known as the Imperial Banking Commission,[2] was established by Emperor Palpatine shortly after the Declaration of a New Order as a successor to the Galactic Republic's clearinghouse. It was an attempt to streamline the Republic's grid-locked economic institution.[1] The Galactic Banking Network was a lending institution, and many individual spacers mortgaged their freighters through the organization.[3]
