Galactic grits were a type of breakfast food[1] that could be eaten by members of the Besalisk species.[2] They were one of many foods discovered and enjoyed by Besalisk Dexter Jettster during his life, many years of which he spent traveling around the galaxy. The dish was served by the chef at Dex's Diner at some point before[1] the restaurant's destruction during the first two years of the reign of the Galactic Empire.[3] At the diner, which Jettster operated in CoCo Town on the planet Coruscant, the grits were served as a breakfast side that cost 2.5 credits.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

"Having "space-y" names for science fiction food is the oldest trick in the book, but if you're working with something as goofy as Dex's, you need to have fun and throw in a few of those."
―Gregory Walker on Galactic grits and other foods in his article[4]

Galactic grits were featured in "Dining at Dex's," a 2009 StarWars.com Hyperspace article written by Gregory Walker in the form of an in-universe menu for Dex's Diner.[1] In his blog, Walker stated that he included food with what he termed "space-y" names to have fun and go along with food names from previous works of science fiction.[4]
