Gas was a state of matter. Many gases such as oxygen or methane were essential for living beings to thrive, however there existed lifeforms that could survive without the need of air, such as vacuumbreathers. Large planets known as gas giants were common throughout the galaxy. Gas mining was a widespread industry in the galaxy. Gas-based lifeforms were also known to exist, such as the Neo-Bespinians.
