"I was in a bacta tank the last time Daeruun brewed this tea of his. I want to see what all the fuss is about."
―Gnost-Dural, to the Alliance Commander[src]

Gatalentan tea was a type of tea from the planet Gatalenta[1] that was potable by Humans,[2] Kel Dors,[3] and Krex. During the third Galactic War[1] in 3628 BBY,[4] General Ardinondu Dipolus Daeruun of the Galactic Republic, who favored the tea, had been told that the tea could only be appreciated if shared.[1]

In 3627 BBY,[5] General Daeruun, Jedi Master Gnost-Dural, and the Commander of the Eternal Alliance were set to depart from the Valor-class cruiser Telos to the planet of Corellia to engage with forces from the reconstituted Sith Empire. Before departing, Daeruun mentioned to the Commander that the travel would be long enough to allow him to cook ryshcate and prepare a pot of Gatalentan tea. Gnost-Dural replied that he was interested in having some tea to see what the commotion was behind it, as he was in a bacta tank the last time Daeruun brewed it.[3]

Behind the scenes

"I'll have a case sent to you—the flavor is unmatched, though I'm told it can only truly be appreciated when shared."

Gatalentan tea was first mentioned in the Star Wars Legends continuity in BioWare's 2011 massively multiplayer online role-playing game, Star Wars: The Old Republic, specifically in the[1] 2018[6] Jedi Under Siege update for the Knights of the Eternal Throne expansion. The tea is only mentioned if the player's character, known in-universe as the Alliance Commander, is among the character classes originally aligned with the Republic.[1] Gatalentan tea was originally introduced in the 2016 canon novel Bloodline, written by Claudia Gray.[7]

During a conversation with General Daeruun in The Old Republic, the Commander can mention liking or disliking tea, depending on the player's choices. If the player expresses interest in the beverage, Daeruun will promise to send the Commander a case of Gatalentan tea.[1] Choosing that option makes a letter from Doctor Eckard Lokin become available after completing the Jedi Under Siege storyline. In the letter, Lokin states he would like to share Gatalentan tea with the Commander.[2]

In The Dantooine Incursion update for The Old Republic,[8] released in 2019,[9] if the Commander is not a spy for the reconstituted Sith Empire and if a Republic News Network interview with the Commander boosts the morale in Republic, Daeruun sends the character a letter. In it, the General congratulates the Commander and invites the character to drink Gatalentan tea with him.[8]
