"Thus we are all sent back to our kennels."
―Geist[src]

Geist was a male Human serving as a Moff in the Galactic Empire at the time of the Second Imperial Civil War. He was also the topmost official in the Imperial Army.

Biography

Dealing with devils

Calixte: "We wanted that war."
Fehlaaur'aitel'loro: "But Roan Fel did not. And now we reap the consequences."
Geist: "I was tired of Fel playing us against each other! It was time for the Moffs to reassert their authority like in the old days—back in the Remnant!"
―The Council of Moffs reflects on the Sith–Imperial War[src]

Geist, a Human male,[1] was a general in[2] and the leader of the Imperial Army[1] of Emperor Roan Fel's Fel Empire during the Sith–Imperial War.[3] His command earned him the title of High Moff and a seat on the Council of Moffs,[1] which in turn gave him control over a single sector as a governor.[2] As the Empire prosecuted their war against the Galactic Alliance,[1] they found themselves struggling due to the abilities of the Alliance's allies in the Jedi Order.[3] In 128 ABY, one year into the war,[4] Moff Nyna Calixte came to the council with an offer from the secretive One Sith of an alliance. Although Fel was against the idea, the Moffs[3]—each with his or her own agenda[1]—were more receptive. Geist felt the need for the Moffs to reassert their authority to Fel and accepted the proposal, as did the council as a whole. The Sith thus joined the war effort on the Imperial side.[3]

In 130 ABY, the Empire trapped and defeated the Galactic Alliance Defense Fleet at the planet Caamas, which prompted an Alliance surrender and the end of the war.[5] As the Imperials took control of the galactic capital world of Coruscant, the Sith laid siege to the Jedi on Ossus, killing many of their foes and scattering the rest of the broken order. On Coruscant, the Council of Moffs appeared before Fel in his new Imperial Palace, and Grand Admiral Morlish Veed gave a report on the massacre. The meeting was soon interrupted by the arrival of Darth Krayt, the Dark Lord of the Sith who led the One Sith, and three of his fellow Sith Lords. Krayt demanded Fel's life in exchange for the Sith's role in the war, and the Dark Lord cut through Fel's Imperial Knight bodyguards before slaying the Emperor himself. As Veed tried to prevent his fellow Moffs from interfering, Geist angered him by accusing him of having advanced knowledge of the attack. Declaring himself the new Galactic Emperor, Krayt bid the Moffs to swear allegiance to him, which all six did before being dismissed. However, Krayt had in fact struck down a double of Fel,[6] allowing the real Fel to escape Coruscant and go into exile.[4]

Sith subservience

"Shut it, Veed! You knew this was going to happen!"
"If that's so, Geist, you'd best choose your next words very carefully.
"
―Moff Geist confronts High Moff Veed[src]

Seven years later, Geist was present for a meeting of the Moff Council in which they were informed by Darth Maladi that the hunt for Cade Skywalker had been called off. There, he voiced his frustration at being forced to report to Emperor Krayt's Sith Lords, comparing himself and his fellow Moffs to a pack of attack dogs being sent back to their kennels. He also voiced his suspicions that Moff Konrad Rus was a spy for Fel.

Months later, following the "incapacitation" of Emperor Krayt and the ascent of Morlish Veed to the rank of Regent, Geist was present in a meeting of the Council in which Veed announced Operation: Thunderstroke, an attack on a meeting between Roan Fel and members of the New Jedi Order with the goal of capturing Fel for a public trial and execution.

While Operation: Thunderstroke was underway, Geist joined Darth Stryfe and Admiral Krion Grail aboard the Relentless, flagship of the Outer Rim Third Fleet. The Relentless was sent to the planet Dac to confront the Galactic Alliance Remnant Core Fleet. Dac had been infected with viral spores that would eliminate all life within seven days as part of the Final Protocol. Moff Geist considered the trap to be a chance to capture or destroy the Imperious-class Star Destroyer Alliance as well as Admiral Gar Stazi; however, Lord Stryfe countered that Lord Wyyrlok's prime directive was the extinction of the Mon Calamari species.

As the battle progressed, the Relentless and the Third Fleet suffered heavy damage. Stryfe ordered the fleet to intercept the Evacuation fleet leaving Dac, much to Geist's opposition. However, Stryfe silenced Geist by threatening him physically. The Alliance and the remnant fleet put itself between Sith Imperial fire and the evacuation ships, resisting enemy fire. However, a Fel-loyalist strikeforce under the command of General Oron Jaeger jumped out of hyperspace to aid Admiral Stazi. As the Relentless suffered attacks from both Stazi and Jaeger's ships, Geist convinced the fanatical Stryfe to withdraw and deprive the enemy of the joy of destroying them. Lord Stryfe accepted's Geist's reasoning and ordered the fleet to leave.

Final battle and death

"I've been waiting for this. All units, launch your attacks as the orbital bombardment ceases!"
―Geist leading the Imperial Army at the frontlines[src]

By 138 ABY Darth Krayt had returned to Coruscant to reclaim the Imperial throne and unleash a massive war against the Galaxy. The Sith Emperor ordered a full-scale assault on the Hidden Temple of the Jedi Order on the world of Taivas. Moff Geist, garbed in armor similar to that worn by AT-ST pilots during the Galactic Civil War, deployed the Imperial ground forces, consisting of stormtroopers, AT-ATs and Sith-Imperial walkers, leading them from the very front line. As the battle progressed, however, it became clear that the Imperial forces had been caught in a trap, the Jedi were well protected in their natural fortress.

Nevertheless, Emperor Krayt had devised a trap of his own. With the Imperial and allied forces engaged in battle, the Dark Lord released his new Sith troopers as well as his Annihilator-class starfighters and Dragon ships, which tore through any vessels in their path, Imperials included. As Krayt's secret weapons descended, they destroyed everything standing in their way. Grand Moff Veed tried to warn Geist of the impending danger but it was too late. Geist died alongside a number of stormtroopers in a explosion caused by the Sith Emperor's relentless forces.

Personality and traits

Leadingfromthefront

Geist leads the Imperial Army from the front lines.

"Never had any use for Rus or his Imperial Mission. 'Victory Without War.' What's the point of that?"
―Geist[src]

Like his predecessors in the Army of the First Galactic Empire, Geist was a hardliner and conservative militarist who longed for the times in which the Empire spread its influence by force of arms instead of the more subtle way of the Victory Without War Program of Emperor Jagged Fel. His favorite tactics were to threaten and to intimidate his opponent. He was ambitious like his fellow Moffs, though he lacked the political acumen and talent for manipulation of Nyna Calixte.

Nevertheless, despite his ambitions for power, Geist was a warrior at heart, preferring to lead his troops from the front line and enjoying being in the heat of battle.
