- "Ghal Tarpfen, daughter of Rhal and Gera, Captain Third Class of the Royal Guard. Please approach."
- ―Shenrick to Ghal Tarpfen
Gera was an individual who had a Mon Calamari daughter named Ghal Tarpfen with another individual, named Rhal. When Tarpfen was a child, her mother used to sing her a lullaby.[1] Around 230 BBY,[2] Tarpfen had a dream that brought her back to her homeworld of[1] the planet[3] Mon Cala. In the dream, she was in an anteroom with her former lover Shenrick and was addressed by her name followed by her parents'. After being kidnapped by the Nihil pirates following a failed blackmailing attempt, Tarpfen took over the pirates' starship and used her final moments to send a message to the Galactic Republic warning of Nihil spies within the government, singing her mother's lullaby before her death.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
Gera was mentioned in the first installment of "Starlight: Shadows Remain," a short story written by Justina Ireland and published in the 207th issue of the Star Wars Insider magazine as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic: Starlight serialized fiction[1] on December 14, 2021.[4] The story's second installment, published in Star Wars Insider 208[1] on January 25, 2022,[5] directly referenced Ghal Tarpfen's mother but did not make clear whether she was either Gera or Rhal.[1]
