Gold implants on ribs
Gold was a yellow-colored metal[1] that was valued by sentient beings as both a luxury item and a metal with useful technological applications. Its value averaged ten to fifteen credits per gram. It was one of the most commonly used metals for the minting of "precious coins," coins made from valuable metals used in the more remote areas of the galaxy[2] Peggats, a Hutt currency used in the Outer Rim Territories, were made from gold.[3]
The planet Aargau's enormous reserves of precious metals included gold. During Princess Leia Organa's visit to the world, a smuggler attempted to abscond with gold concealed as implants on his fifth and sixth ribs. This gold was detected, and as this act violated Aargau's First Law prohibiting the unlawful removal of precious metals from the world, the smuggler was immediately executed.[1]
Smokers on Muunilinst, such as the one that the Vault-spire of Mariunhus was built around, emitted superheated gases that contained extremely pure precious metals, including gold.[4]
A massive gold statue of Karagga the Unyielding was displayed at the center of the Promenade on Nar Shaddaa during the Cold War.[source?]

Behind the scenes[]
The metal aurodium, which first appears in Rogue Planet, was presented as the Star Wars version of gold; however, gold has been identified simply as "gold" in other sources. It is uncertain whether gold is identical to aurodium. In the real world, "Au" is the chemical symbol for gold in the periodic table and a common prefix for gold-related words.[source?]
In Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, the strategic resource of gold was replaced with nova crystals.[6]
