Grain maggots were a species of insect which members of the sentient Hutt species would roast and eat. After roasting, most maggots would lie in crispy husks although some would continue to squirm in an attempt to survive, although all would be eaten, dead or alive. In 12 ABY, the Hutt crime lord Durga Besadii Tai had roasted grain maggots served at a meal in his palace on the planet Nal Hutta, which was attended by several of his cousins and the Human diplomats of the New Republic, Han Solo and Leia Organa Solo.[1]

Behind the scenesEdit

Grain maggots were first mentioned in the novel Darksaber, which was written by Kevin J. Anderson and released in 1995. It is not established if the maggots are sentient or not in the novel.
