"Supreme Chancellor Palpatine wants the tumor and all of the intel gathered sent to the Grand Republic Medical Facility on Coruscant."
―Shaak Ti[4]

The Grand Republic Medical Facility, also known as the Grand Medical Facility, was a towering medcenter located on Coruscant, the capital planet of the Galactic Republic. During the Clone Wars, the facility was used as a hospital to treat badly injured Republic Military personnel. In addition, the facility treated patients from across the galaxy. One such patient was the Sith Lord Darth Vader, who required cybernetic reconstruction as a result of the injuries he sustained on Mustafar. Darth Sidious, the secret persona of Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine, used the facility as his retreat prior to proclaiming himself Galactic Emperor.

The facility remained in use during the reign of the Galactic Empire, although its secret role as Sidious' Sith haven was transferred to the Imperial Palace. During the Galactic Civil War, Sidious brought Vader to the facility to be rebuilt following his journey to Exegol.

Description[]

"The Grand Medical Facility is state-of-the-art."
―Nala-Se[5]
Grand-Republic-Medical-Facility-SWCL

The Grand Republic Medical Facility was a fortified treatment center and a Sith retreat for Darth Sidious on Coruscant.

The Galactic Republic medcenter known as the Grand Republic Medical Facility was a skyscraping tower in Galactic City, the planet-wide ecumenopolis of the Republic capital Coruscant. The facility's lower levels were restructured to accommodate Darth Sidious' new Sith lair, and also housed a meditation chamber for the Sith Lord's use.[2]

The facility was regarded as a high-value target during the Clone Wars due to its role as a Republic treatment center, and therefore fortified with strong defense systems and powerful weaponry. Its security forces comprised the clone shock troopers of the Coruscant Guard and Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine's Red Guards.[2]

History[]

"I recommend we do further tests on this tumor at the Jedi Temple to see if it is the cause of the problem."
"Or even better, have the tumor sent to the Grand Republic Medical Facility here on Coruscant."
―Shaak Ti and Sheev Palpatine[5]

The Grand Republic Medical Facility was a Galactic Republic medcenter on Coruscant that dated back to the High Republic Era.

The Grand Republic Medical Facility was operated by the Galactic Republic since at least the High Republic Era. The mentally distraught Jedi Knight Azlin Rell was brought to the facility in the aftermath of the Battle of Dalna after Rell was traumatized by his encounter with a Nameless during the battle. His carers remained unaware and confused by what he had encountered. Rell regularly experienced nightmares about his experience and began hurriedly writing a journal about the creatures. When the bounty hunter Vol Garat broke into his room to demand information on the Nameless, intending to use the creatures against the Jedi Order himself, Rell remained preoccupied with the journal until the enraged bounty hunter knocked it away, ripping out several pages in the process. The commotion was heard by two nearby personnel, but Garat remained out of sight as they entered, leaving them to assume the mess was Rell's own doing after another nightmare. The officials decided that Rell needed rest instead of hospital care and thus transferred him to the Gravan Monastery on the moon Grava, unaware that Garat had overheard their entire conversation. With less security at the monastery, Garat attacked Rell again on the moon, but was fought off by the Wookiee Jedi Arkoff.[6]

During the Clone Wars, clone trooper Tup's malfunctioning behavioral modification biochip caused the clone to kill Jedi General Tiplar in accordance with Order 66.[7] After the Advanced Recon Commando Fives discovered the biochips during his investigation into Tup's actions on Ringo Vinda, Jedi Master Shaak Ti and Doctor Nala Se conferred with Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine, who suggested that they transport the biochips and Fives from Tipoca City on Kamino to the Grand Republic Medical Facility on Coruscant for further analysis. Nala Se supported Palpatine's proposal, stating that the facility was "state-of-the-art." Although Shaak Ti had wanted to bring the evidence to her colleagues in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, she ultimately followed the chancellor's advice.[5]

Fives fled from the Grand Republic Medical Facility after attempting to assassinate Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine.

Shaak Ti, Nala Se, and Fives arrived at the Grand Republic Medical Facility in a Nu-class attack/transport shuttle. They were escorted into the facility by Vice Chair Mas Amedda and the clone shock troopers of the Coruscant Guard. After Fives voiced his suspicion that the biochip was responsible for Tup's execution of Tiplar, Chancellor Palpatine insisted on speaking with the ARC trooper in private. However, a confrontation ensued between Fives and the chancellor's bodyguards. Shaak Ti returned in time to stop Fives from shooting the chancellor with a DC-15A blaster carbine. The Jedi Master tried to capture Fives after Palpatine accused him of attempted murder, although the clone managed to escape from the facility. The Coruscant Guard launched a manhunt for the rogue ARC trooper, who was ultimately killed by Clone Commander Fox on Level 1325 of Coruscant. Prior to his death, Fives tried to convince Jedi General Anakin Skywalker and Clone Captain Rex that Chancellor Palpatine was involved in a conspiracy against the Jedi Order, but Skywalker rejected Fives' claims because of his assassination attempt against the chancellor.[3]

The Grand Republic Medical Facility was still in use by the time of the Galactic Civil War.

Following the incident with Fives,[3] Palpatine moved his collection of Sith relics and artifacts from an abandoned tower in The Works district to the Grand Republic Medical Facility, fearing they would be discovered by the Jedi.[2] Unbeknownst to the Jedi at the time, Palpatine was the public persona of Darth Sidious, the Dark Lord of the Sith who orchestrated the Clone Wars to gain more political power. After the rise of the Galactic Empire, a severely damaged Darth Vader was taken to the facility by the now-anointed Emperor Palpatine. Utilizing a team of medical droids, Sidious had his Sith apprentice surgically reconstructed using cybernetics and an armored suit to keep Vader alive.[1] Vader revisited the facility, which was still operational at the time of the Galactic Civil War, to be repaired after his excursion to Exegol.[8]
