The Great Houses were the six of the wealthiest and most powerful families on the planet of Serenno. Among these families were the Demici and Nalju families.

History[]

Early history[]

"It won't be long before the Great Houses discover I am the founder of the Anti-Republic Liberation Front. They will seize my assets and declare me a traitor."
―Hetton, explaining to Zannah his situation after the failed assassination attempt[1]

The family of Loranda and her son, Hetton, were related to the House Demici.

During the Ruusan Reformation debate, the Counts of Serenno attempted to remain neutral until Supreme Chancellor Tarsus Valorum was nearly assassinated on their homeworld.

Cleansing of Serenno[]

"Lord Vader! This is barbaric! You never spoke of this!"
"The rest of the Galaxy suffered, so now will Serenno. The houses will be cleansed by blood."
―Adan Dooku and Darth Vader[2]
Cleansing of Serenno

Darth Vader turned the heirs of Serenno against their fathers.

During the Clone Wars, the Great Houses supported Count Dooku and the Separatists. However, after the Clone Wars, Darth Vader was sent to Serenno by Palpatine to enact the retaliation of the Galactic Empire on the six ruling Houses, which had sided with the separatists during the war. During what was called the Cleansing of Serenno, a choice was offered to the five Counts, with the exception of Adan Dooku who was in exile during the Clone Wars: be killed by their oldest sons or be killed by the Sith Lord and his troopers. Rodas Borgin killed his father first followed by the others.[2]

Dooku regency[]

"The new Count, Bron Dooku, is too young to assume rule so a regent must be appointed. Normally it would go to a member of his immediate family, but there is no one. Mother and father both dead. The other Counts -- the heads of the other five Great Houses -- will meet. One of them will be appointed regent. The decision must be unanimous. Our interests lay with the head of House Borgin -- Rodas Borgin. You are to do whatever is necessary to insure he is named regent."
―Armand Isard explaining his next mission to Agent Jahan Cross[3]

Following the assassination of Count Adan Dooku in 3 BBY, the Lords of the other Great Houses refused to elect Lord Borgin as regent.[3] However, the Lords of the Great Houses elected Lord Orom Malvern as the new regent and Borgin's son, Pero, was named Lord of House Borgin.[4]
