- "Gretalax? I'm not sure I've heard of them."
"None of us had before we came here. Before we found these cave paintings. […] We thought these creatures were extinct—until one came rampaging through our camp." - ―Ty Yorrick and Layton Wyke
The Gretalax was a semi-sentient Force-sensitive species native to the Galactic Frontier planet Loreth. It consisted of two races, the Greta and the Lax, which would join together in symbiotic mated pairs. When joined together, a Gretalax had the power of Force healing, capable of fully restoring even serious injuries. Gretalax horn could be ground into a potion which granted its users great strength.[1]
Around 231 BBY[3] during the High Republic Era, Loreth was settled by a group of colonists led by Layton Wyke.[2] Having heard of the properties of Gretalax horn, Wyke and a group of his followers wanted to brew the potion for themselves. They captured the Lax of a Gretalax living on the mountain Temple Peak, but were unable to capture the Greta, which attacked the settlement in an attempt to free its mate.[1]
Wyke decided to hire Ty Yorrick, a former Jedi Padawan turned monster hunter, to slay the Greta, but concealed the truth, with him and his archaeologist Tapel lying that they had never heard of the Gretalax before coming to Loreth.[2] Yorrick, however, eventually discovered the truth,[4] and put an end to Wyke's plans, exposing him to the residents of Wyke Town.[1]
