The male Kaleesh warrior[1] Qymaen jai Sheelal, later known by the name of Grievous,[5] was born on Kalee[1] to a family. Though his father and mother were flesh and blood,[6] Grievous chose to undergo cybernetic upgrades[7] after a shuttle crash[8] destroyed the majority of his organic Kaleesh body.[9] Alternatively, one legend claimed his changes had been over time.[10] Grievous claimed to view his cybernetics as improvements[3] over a weaker organic form.[11]
A brilliant tactician,[12] Grievous served as the Supreme Martial Commander of the Separatist Droid Armies for the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars.[13] Despite not being Force-sensitive,[11] Grievous, using his cybernetics and skills in Lightsaber combat,[14] served as a Jedi hunter for the Confederacy[12] and killed many Jedi.[3]
The Kaleesh cyborg was ruthless as he invaded planets and fought Jedi in the Clone Wars, during which he was feared by the Galactic Republic.[12] Grievous also maintained a personal fortress on Vassek 3, where he kept a pet roggwart named Gor, but the creature was killed by Jedi Kit Fisto and Nahdar Vebb when they infiltrated the lair.[3] In 19 BBY,[15] days after he became the Separatist Head of State[16] after his mentor in Lightsaber combat, Count Dooku, was killed in the Battle of Coruscant, Grievous was killed during the Battle of Utapau by his nemesis, Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi.[4]
