Gruttaweed was a type of weed that could be torn apart. While searching for the Great Progenitor[1]—the first member of the sentient carnivorous plant species known as the Drengir—in 231 BBY, the Hutt Clan warlord Myarga Anjiliac Atirue[2] referred to the Progenitor as an "overgrown gruttaweed" in Huttese and stated that she would tear the Drengir apart. Myarga was prevented from doing so by members of the Jedi Order, who captured the Great Progenitor by placing her in stasis.[1]

Gruttaweed was mentioned in the eighth issue of the 2021 comic series Star Wars: The High Republic, released as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase I.[3] The issue was written by Cavan Scott and published by Marvel Comics on August 11, 2021.[4]
