This article is about the Ewok. You may be looking for the mythological figure.

Gwig was a young male Ewok who lived on the forest moon of Endor.[1] He came of age and received his hood—together with Malani and Mookiee—at the Festival of Hoods.[2] He was also amongst a group of young Ewoks and woklings to whom Chirpa told the story of Logray, Morag and the Sunstar.[3] Gwig sought to join older Ewoks on their many adventures.[1] He was named for a legendary scout from Ewok mythology.[4]

Behind the scenes[]

Gwig

Gwig plush toy

Gwig first appeared as one of six 8-inch plush woklings made by Kenner as part of their Return of the Jedi toy line[5], and then as a figure in the Wicket the Ewok toy line from the company's Kenner Preschool division.[6]

Gwig's first appearance in fiction was as a background character with no spoken lines in the Ewoks television series. His name appears only on two of Nelvana's animation model cels, one of which shows him wearing a green bandana[7] and the other a blue hood.[8] The blue-hooded design matches the unnamed character in "The Cries of the Trees." Both versions of Gwig are present in the crowd of young Ewoks in "Sunstar vs. Shadowstone."
